Streetscape

Building A Beautiful Downtown Center

The City of Pittsfield has embarked on an ambitious plan to upgrade the appearance of the downtown streetscape. This includes new sidewalks, trees, plantings, benches, period lighting and sidewalk bump-outs for safer pedestrian crossings. The work has been completed on the first two blocks of South Street where the Colonial Theatre and Berkshire Museum are located and has transformed the area. Work is underway in 2011 on the first two blocks of North Street and is expected to be mostly completed by the end of the year. The result of the work is a much more attractive and inviting downtown experience. Funds are currently being sought to continue the work on the remaining blocks of North Street.
