Public Art Partnership will celebrate eight new murals in Pittsfield on Saturday\, September 9 – the day of the partnership’s community celebration: “Let It Shine! A Celebration of Public Art”. The celebration will feature self-guided tours of the mural sites and the Let It Shine! Block Party on Saturday\, September 9\, from 12 to 6 pm at Palace Park at the Cooper Center\, 116 North Street. The trio plays a mix of classic blues\, soul\, jazz\, and popular songs. Ed provides the hard driving\, deeply blues-infused\, powerful lead vocals\, while Dan and Benny lay down a solid foundation ranging from hard swinging to straight solid grooves. \n  \n“Dance and Drum with Aimee\, Kim and Dan” features Aimee Gelinas and Dan Cohen on drums and dancer Kim Waterman. For 25 years\, Aimee\, Kim and Dan have been sharing traditional West African and Caribbean song\, drum\, and dance in the Berkshires and beyond. They have all studied with master teachers from West Africa\, Haiti\, Cuba\, Puerto Rico\, and Brazil\, and it is with these teachers’ blessings and an abundance of spirit and respect that they bring these traditions to you. \n  \nSample The Cat is a 4-piece soulful rock group storming the region’s rock scene. The band fuses elements of rock\, soul\, blues\, and funk into an energetic yet smooth original sound that grooves with a serious head bop factor. Years in the making\, the group includes singer Kendrah Bellevue with her soulfully enriching vocals\, Steve Dalton with his masterful melodic arrangements on guitar\, Bryan “Dizzy Fingers” Brophy with his colorful layers on keys\, and Olivia Davis with her punchy groove on drums. \n  \nLet It Shine! There will be an opportunity to meet with Pops and Jasmine during this event. \n  \nPaintings by Karen Chase and Paul Graubard will also be on view at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue\, from 12 to 4 pm. Witch Slapped\, 78 North Street\, will be open with an afternoon of spooky\, free family fun. There will be a Spooky Storytime at noon with Poppy DaBubbly and spooky ornament making from 12 to 4 pm. \n  \n  \nThe Let It Shine! Public Art Partnership is a group of Pittsfield-based community members who have formed to organize public art and revitalization on North Street\, empowered by organizing efforts through MassDevelopment’s TDI. MassDevelopment’s Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) is a program for Gateway Cities designed to accelerate economic growth within focused districts. \n  \nThe Let It Shine! Public Art Project is sponsored by MassDevelopment’s TDI Creative Catalyst Grant program\, Teton Management\, Mill Town Foundation\, and Carr Hardware. It is presented in partnership with MassDevelopment’s TDI\, Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc.\, Downtown Pittsfield Cultural Association\, Artscape\, City of Pittsfield’s Office of Cultural Development\, Huck Elling\, Jesse Tobin McCauley\, Common Wealth Murals\, Westside Legends\, Allegrone Companies\, The Cooper Center\, and Paul Aronofsky. \n  \nMassDevelopment’s TDI Creative Catalyst Grant program is made possible by the Barr Foundation\, which since 2019 has awarded $4.4 million to MassDevelopment to create and administer arts-based programming that directly supports the expansion of cultural and creative industries in Gateway Cities. These individuals took photos around the city of what recovery\, addiction\, and hope mean to them. The outcome of this work is impressive – over 40 images and quotes from individuals in our community\, expressing themselves in a way not often heard or seen. \n  \nThe reception with the artists on October 6th is part of Living in Recovery’s continued celebration of National Recovery Month. \n  \nDowntown Pittsfield\, Inc. has partnered with Katunemo: Art & Healing to bring “The Journey III”\, an exhibition featuring the work of fifteen artists from different countries in Latin America and Europe\, to their conference room at 33 Dunham Mall for one-night only\, Friday\, October 6\, from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nThe featured artists are Sheila Franco\, David Melchor\, Derly Toloza\, Diana Rodriguez\, Juanita Latorre Silva\, Nicole Herasme\, Shelsy Rodriguez\, Thayna Dias\, Estiven Sosa\, Micaela Soasti\, Valentina Morales\, Marina Dominguez\, Angie Soasti\, Clara Guatta\, and Claire Saussol. \n  \nThe artists will share about their culture\, language\, traditions\, roots and different perspectives about life. This free live painting demonstration will be from 5 to 7 pm during the October 6 First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nNicole Herasme was born in a small town in Santiago de los caballeros Dominican Republic\, and moved to the United States when she was 19 looking for better opportunities. She has recently found a great passion for photography and modeling\, dedicated to learning and improving in these branches. She enjoys expressing her emotions through art such as painting\, singing\, dancing and poetry. Since she was little\, she has felt called to help the people around her\, that is why one of her goals is to help spread freedom of expression through art and healing in the Berkshires. \n  \nFannie Pack will take the stage at Persip Park\, 175 North Street\, on Friday\, October 6\, from 5 to 8 pm\, as part of the First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nFannie Pack is a band that will make you smile and compel you to dance. Public Art Partnership is thrilled to unveil an original mural on the back of 26 Dunham Mall by Argentine/American artist Ramiro Davaro-Comas during the October 6 Artswalk. The mural is funded by a MassDevelopment Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) Creative Catalyst Grant. \n  \nThe Clock Tower Artists at 75 South Church Street will host an open studios event in their beautiful and ever-expanding space on Friday\, October 6\, and every First Friday of the month through December\, from 5 to 8 pm\, and on Saturday\, October 7\, and every first Saturday of the month through December\, from 11 am to 4 pm. Witness the artists’ artistic processes firsthand and be captivated by an eclectic blend of masterpieces that will enchant and inspire you. \n  \nArtists with Open Studios in September include: Deborah H. Carter\, Joan Palano Ciolfi\, Marion H. Grant\, Stacey Healy\, Caroline Kelley\, Bruce Laird\, Mark Mellinger\, Linda Petrocine\, Shany Porras\, Sally Tiska Rice\, Ilene Richard\, Audrey Shachnow\, and Stefanie Weber. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renee Avenue\, will feature “CHAOS: Paintings and Drawings by Julio Granda”\, on view October 6 through November 17. The show will be on view during the First Fridays Artswalk on Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 8 pm. \n  \n“Always the explorer\, Julio Granda has once again set his impassioned sights on new territory\,” says Barry Sternlieb. “Coming to grips with a profound life-altering loss at 88\, he digs into the sudden new reality with a vengeance\, making each of these 54 paintings a defiantly unique symbiotic union of language and image\, a single furious word empowered by abstraction to grasp the matter of meaning so deeply rooted in his own personal chaos it moves us beyond ourselves with a universal touch that eternal loss alone embodies.” \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature Soil Paintings by Sarah Horne\, October 3 through November 29. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday\, October 6\, from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \n“This exhibit is about the mixture of organic matter\, minerals\, gases\, and liquids—the alchemy that makes soil\,” says Sarah. “Soil is elemental to the environment that keeps me alive: soil and its nutrients are fundamental to growing and literally the earth beneath my feet. I feel that our souls\, our beginnings and our endings\, lie low in our bodies as the soil that helps sustain us lies low on the earth. \n  \nThese paintings are a representation of what I see when I look directly down at soil. The paintings are multi-layered\, complex and earthy in tones. I want to capture the movement\, depth and complexity of soil in these paintings. I am lucky enough to know two extraordinarily beautiful farms that serve as the inspiration for these Soil Paintings: Spring Hills Farm in Dalton\, PA and Woven Roots Farm in Tyringham\, MA. Both are working organic farms that place high importance on the health and beauty of soil. “ \n  \nThe Berkshire Art Center (BAC)\, 141 North Street\, will continue to offer Free Artmaking Drop-Ins on the First Friday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm\, year-round. For the month of October\, The Berkshire Art Center will also feature two window displays: Feathered Friends by Paula Churt (north window) and Turn the Tables by Deborah Carter (south window). \n  \nThe exhibit in the north window\, “Feathered Friends”\, represents a collective array of paper owls and backyard birds familiar to the Berkshires. Paula’s creative vision is inspired by nature and natural found objects. Each bird is uniquely designed and precisely cut using scissors and an exacto knife. “Feathered Friends” will be on view October 6 through October 31. \n  \nDeborah Carter is back in the south window of Berkshire Art Center with an installation created with upcycled vintage napkins and tablecloths. “Turn the Tables” by Deborah Carter will be on view October 6 through November 26. \n  \nOn Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, NUarts gallery + studios\, 311 North Street\, will open their Hall Gallery featuring the works of resident artists including Richard Britell\, Kathy Gideon\, Brent Ridge\, Joan Rooks\, Marney Schorr\, and Laura Thompson. \n  \nSally Tiska Rice will present “Autumn Reverie” at Krol Headquarters\, 139 North Street\, on October 6. Sally invites you to indulge your senses in the vibrant colors and intricate brushstrokes of abstract canvases and framed translucent watercolor works. There will be a reception with the artist on Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, during the First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nAs a versatile multi-media artist\, Sally Tiska Rice seamlessly employs a tapestry of techniques\, working in acrylic\, watercolors\, oil paints\, pastels\, and collages containing botanicals and mixed media elements. Her creative spirit draws inspiration from the idyllic surroundings of her rural hometown\, where she resides with her husband Mark and cherished pets. \n  \nThe Marketplace Cafe\, 53 North Street\, will host watercolor paintings by Jill Gustavis for the month of October. There will be a reception with the artist during the October 6th First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 7 pm. \n  \nJill Gustavis is a painter living in Hancock\, MA. A Berkshire native\, Jill is inspired by a wide range of local subjects\, from still lifes and florals to landscapes and animals. Working primarily in watercolor\, Jill uses layers of color and value to sculpt a sense of presence between the subject and viewer. \n  \nMarchetti Headquarters\, at 314 North Street\, will feature Mollie Kellogg’s Incognito Witches for the month of October. “Tis the season for witches!” Experience hidden magick revealed in Mollie Kellogg’s Incognito Witch paintings and drawings during the First Fridays Artswalk and all month long. Visitors can meet Mollie at a reception on Friday\, October 6 from 5 to 7 pm at Marchetti Headquarters. \n  \nAerofauna Studio presents The P.E.B.E. Project with the artistic stylings of Natalie Zoe White at The Unitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield\, 175 Wendell Avenue\, through October 23. There will be a reception with the artists on Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 7 pm\, as part of First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nThe P.E.B.E. Project is a Biodata sonification demonstration. Exhibits are plants connected to instrumentation that registers stomatal conductance and translates the signal into sound. The Project is presented by Linda Merry who has a Master of Arts in Biology from Miami University and who currently works at Berkshire Community College in the Life Sciences. Pencil illustrations by artist Natalie Zoe White will also be part of this exhibit. \n  \nFor the month of October\, Berkshire Medical Center (BMC)\, 725 North Street\, will feature Tiffany Delmolino\, a local artist from Cheshire\, MA\, in their Main Lobby. Tiffany utilizes abstract pieces with bright colors. She is a lover of all things nature and is captivated by the sky and sunsets. Working in opposing disciplines of analog photography\, sculpture\, and illustration\, the pair is now merging their solo artistic practices and speaking with one voice of creative experimentation. Inspired by each other\, “Darling\, Darling” takes a bold new step in the expression of queer love. \n  \nBerkshire Medical Center will present “JOY” – a collaborative exhibit featuring the joyful works of staff and friends of BMC’s Clinical Ancillary Services Division. Participating artists will share examples of what brings them JOY through a variety of mediums. \n  \n“JOY” will be on view in BMC’s Main Lobby at 725 North Street November 1 through November 30; and there will be two receptions on Friday\, November 3: 12 to 1 pm and 3 to 5 pm. \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature Soil Paintings by Sarah Horne through November 29. \n  \n“This exhibit is about the mixture of organic matter\, minerals\, gases\, and liquids—the alchemy that makes soil\,” says Sarah. “Soil is elemental to the environment that keeps me alive: soil and its nutrients are fundamental to growing and literally the earth beneath my feet. I feel that our souls\, our beginnings and our endings\, lie low in our bodies as the soil that helps sustain us lies low on the earth. \n  \nThese paintings are a representation of what I see when I look directly down at soil. The paintings are multi-layered\, complex and earthy in tones. I want to capture the movement\, depth and complexity of soil in these paintings. I am lucky enough to know two extraordinarily beautiful farms that serve as the inspiration for these Soil Paintings: Spring Hills Farm in Dalton\, PA and Woven Roots Farm in Tyringham\, MA. SUMMARY:Opening Reception for "Between Generations"
DESCRIPTION:Between Generations is an ongoing collaboration between Luiza Folegatti and Latinas 413 highlighting mothers and daughters and their stories surrounding migration in the Berkshires. The show is composed of photographs and interview excerpts and part of a larger project aiming to strengthen the community through art events. \n  \nThere will be an opening reception for Between Generations on Friday\, May 3\, 5 to 8 pm at Barrington Stage Company’s Wolfson Center at 122 North Street\, with live music by Clara Guatta and Yo Soy Arte at 6:30 pm. \n  \nLuiza Folegatti is a Brazilian photographer based in North Adams since 2021. Her work integrates artistic practice\, teaching\, and social advocacy work around the rights of women migrants. She strongly believes in the positive impact generated by projects that combine photography\, education\, and community building. She has taught photography workshops for nonprofits working with immigrants for many years\, in Germany and the US\, and is currently visiting faculty in photography at Bennington College\, part-time residency coordinator at MASS MoCA\, and Artists At Work grantee.

SUMMARY:Let It Shine! Unveils New Artwork in Downtown Pittsfield
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, May 24th at 4 pm\, the Let It Shine! partnership will unveil their most recent public art addition to downtown Pittsfield. The public is invited to attend this celebration\, held at 292 North Street outside of the Berkshire Family YMCA. This project is a collaboration between local artists Huck Elling and Marina Dominguez\, Morningside Community School\, Mill Town Foundation and MassDevelopment’s TDI. \nThe project culminates in a photographic mural on 4 large panels that will be displayed on the YMCA on North Street. The murals include playful portraits of 173 students from Morningside Elementary School. \n“The inspiration for this project started with a desire to strengthen connections between people who live here and places we share\, through making art with/for our community. We chose the format of black and white photos because the simplicity of the format lets the kids’ personalities shine\,” said organizer and local artist Huck Elling. \nHuck went on to say\, “Our motivation for this collaboration is joy. Our method for achieving this goal is sharing the youthful exuberance of children that make up this community. It’s our hope that their smiles bring you smiles.” As participant Kamaya\, grade 2\, said\, “When people see it\, they are going to think we are so beautiful. That is so beautiful.” \nThe Let It Shine! mission is rooted in making art accessible to all\, rebuilding confidence in Pittsfield\, and creating stronger ties between residents and their downtown. In 2023\, the committee installed five murals of large scale in downtown Pittsfield\, collaborated with Boys and Girls Club youth on themes of art and activism\, worked with 50 volunteers to paint downtown sidewalks\, and held a day of celebration for public art. Let It Shine! is made up of numerous local partners including representatives from Downtown Pittsfield Inc./Downtown Pittsfield Cultural Association (fiscal agent)\, City of Pittsfield’s Office of Cultural Development\, Pittsfield Artists in Residence: Huck Elling and Jesse Tobin McCauley\, Mill Town Foundation\, and MassDevelopment’s TDI. \nThis year\, Let It Shine! will operate a mentoring program in three Pittsfield Public Schools surrounding downtown with the goals of educating young artists\, building bridges between young people and downtown\, and boosting economic vitality. Public art will be created with and by local youth after a series of workshops that engage kids with themes of activism\, environmentalism\, and entrepreneurship. \nLet It Shine! expresses gratitude for support from its major 2024 sponsors: Mill Town Foundation\, Lee Bank\, a grant awarded by Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s Arts Build Community Initiative with funding from the Barr Foundation\, Fiegenbaum Foundation\, Pittsfield Cultural Council\, NBT Bank\, and General Dynamics.

See her amazing work created from small dots\, showing us how all things are connected in life\, even when we do not notice it. \n  \nThe Berkshire Black Economic Council\, 33 Dunham Mall\, Suite 101\, will feature “The Creative Journey” by DeSean Scales for the August 2 First Fridays Artswalk. There will be a reception with the artist on Friday\, August 2\, from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nDeSean Scales is a self-taught photographer based in Pittsfield. In every frame\, DeSean aims to capture not just an image\, but a connection—a shared moment of joy\, reflection\, or understanding. Whether photographing people\, landscapes\, or objects\, photography is DeSean’s way of bringing light into the world\, one frame at a time. \n  \nFor the month of August\, Marie’s North Street Eatery and Gallery\, 146 North Street\, will feature a multi-media piece entitled TEMPEST containing the exhibit “Hidden By the Weight of Our Scales”. Hidden By the Weight of Our Scales attempts to provide moments to explore the subtlety of the human emotional landscape through illustrations by Antoine Adams. The exhibit will be on view on Friday\, August 2 during the First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue\, will present CATA’s “I AM A PART OF ART” through August 20. The exhibit will be on view during the First Fridays Artswalk on August 2 from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nI AM A PART OF ART\, Community Access to the Arts’ Annual Art Show\, features more than 150 paintings and drawings by artists with disabilities from across Berkshire County\, MA and Columbia County\, NY. This annual exhibition is the culmination of hundreds of visual arts workshops that CATA holds throughout the year for teens\, adults\, and elders with disabilities across Berkshire County\, Massachusetts\, and Columbia County\, New York. Through these workshops\, CATA artists grow creatively\, learn new techniques\, and build community. Works in the exhibit are professionally matted and framed\, and available for sale\, with proceeds providing commissions to the individual artists. The curated exhibit features a wide range of styles\, including abstract and representational paintings\, drawings\, photographs\, collage\, sculpture\, and printmaking\, as well as comics\, illustration\, and stop-motion animation. \n  \nDottie’s Coffee Lounge/Dorothy’s Estaminet\, 438/444 North Street\, will host a First Fridays After Party featuring the Tap on Friday\, August 2\, from 7 to 10 pm.
