SUMMARY:Holiday First Fridays Artswalk
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy art shows\, open studios\, and community art making during the Holiday First Fridays Artswalk on Friday\, December 2\, from 5 to 8 pm. Explore art and meet artists during opening receptions on the first Friday of the month from 5 to 8 pm\, with most art on display all month long. Download the Downtown Pittsfield app in the App Store or on Google Play to follow a virtual walking tour of art on your cell phone. The Holiday First Fridays Artswalk is being held in conjunction with Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc.’s Festive Frolic. \n  \nThe Wreath Art Auction makes its return to the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue\, on Friday\, December 2. Dozens of local artists and members of the Springside Greenhouse Group have donated their talent\, time\, and materials to create one-of-a-kind\, original holiday wreaths\, centerpieces\, kissing balls\, and more. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these original works of art will be donated to the South Congregational Church’s food pantry. The preview party begins at 5 pm and the live auction will take place at 6:30 pm. Tickets will be available at the door for a suggested donation of $10. Light food and beverages will be available. \n  \nJoin Berkshire Art Center (BAC)\, 141 North Street\, for a Free Family Drop-In Holiday Art Activity from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Friday\, December 2\, and on Saturday\, December 3\, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Families are welcome to participate at their own pace with the guidance and support of a faculty artist. Free Family Drop-Ins are open to the public and all children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required. \n  \nThe Brothership Building Window at 141 North Street\, curated by Berkshire Art Center\, will feature “Artful Pots!”\, ceramics by Ingrid Raab\, for the month of December. As a ceramicist\, Ingrid explores balance\, containment\, and new perspectives. Her shapes are reminiscent of familiar\, often ancient functional forms. She interprets these shapes by interchanging contemporary textures\, shapes\, and materials with traditional ones\, hoping to connect feelings and thoughts in new ways. \n  \nLee Bank\, 75 North Street\, will offer free hot chocolate and drop-in ornament making from 5 to 7 pm on December 2. \n  \nThe Artists at the historic Clock Tower will host a Holiday Open Studios event on Friday\, December 2\, 5 to 8 pm\, and Saturday & Sunday\, December 3 & 4\, from 10 am to 4 pm. The Clock Tower Studios are located on the third floor of the Clock Tower at 75 South Church Street. The Clock Tower Artists have created new original small paintings and have printed items perfect for gift giving. Visit for a festive holiday experience! \n  \nThe artists hosting open studios at the Clock Tower are Joan Palano Ciolfi\, Marion Grant\, Caroline Kelley\, Bruce Laird\, Mark Mellinger\, Linda Petrocine\, Shany Porras\, Ilene Richard\, and Sally Tiska Rice. For more information\, visit https://clocktowerartists.com. \n  \nArtists of the Guild Berkshire Artists will bring reasonably priced treasures from their studios to TKG Real Estate\, 137 North Street\, from 5 to 8 pm on December 2. Find unique\, original gifts at amazing prices: earrings\, cards\, small paintings\, prints\, and more. \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature artworks by Ellie Kreischer through January 31\, 2023. There will be an opening reception with the artist during the First Fridays Artswalk on December 2 from 5 to 8 pm\, and her works can be viewed when the lobby of Hotel on North is open. \n  \nEllie currently teaches studio art at Miss Hall’s School. She studies the life and work of Swedish artist Hilma af Klint\, traveling to see her shows\, reading her writings\, and staying in touch with her family. Beyond her connection to Hilma\, Ellie draws inspiration for her art from her daily life which includes caring for her six-year-old daughter\, supporting her students’ artistic pursuits\, walking in the Berkshire woods\, and practicing meditation. \n  \nThe Unitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield\, 175 Wendell Avenue\, will present “Artswalk at the UU. A year in review.” for the month of December. There will be a reception with the artists on Friday\, December 2\, 5 to 8 pm\, as part of First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nThis show will feature a varied group of artists that have participated in the Artswalk over the last year at the Unitarian Universalist Church. If you enjoyed visiting the many gifted artists over the last year\, or missed a show\, now is your chance to see the artist’s most favorite piece and connect with them about their work. \n  \nNew to Artswalk\, Witch Slapped\, 78 North Street\, will present artworks by Kit Curry for the month of December. In Kit’s work\, ruins\, ancient and modern\, frequently serve as background for folkloric characters\, who seem to have returned to the world after some calamity. The images are sometimes macabre\, but also serene. This is Kit’s vision of the future; it affirms something that we’ve all had to learn in recent years: the end of the world can\, to a certain extent\, be lived with. \n  \nOn Friday\, December 2\, Witch Slapped will stay open until 8 pm with The Emerald Phoenix popped up and a free Kids’ event from 5 to 8 pm where they can make their own ornament. At 6:30 pm\, there will be a Drag Storytime as Island Fawn reads a children’s holiday story! \n  \nSoma’s Aromas\, 81 East Street\, will feature artist Anita Plouffe who will be painting live on Friday\, December 2\, from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nThe Beacon Cinema\, 57 North Street\, will feature “The Instagram Image Out Of Context” curated by Richard Britell through December 20. For this exhibit\, 20 images were selected from Instagram feeds\, framed\, and hung on the wall as an artistic statement. The exhibit can be viewed when The Beacon Cinema is open. \n  \nFor more information on First Fridays Artswalk\, visit firstfridaysartswalk.com or call 413-443-6501. \n  \nEvent Highlights (South to North): \nUnitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield\n175 Wendell Avenue\n“Artswalk at the UU. SUMMARY:September First Fridays Artswalk
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy brand new indoor art shows\, murals\, and Artscape’s Pittsfield Paintboxes during the First Fridays Artswalk on Friday\, September 3\, 5 to 8 pm\, and all month long. You can view all locations by clicking here\, and new this year\, you can download the PocketSights app to follow a virtual walking tour on your cell phone. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue\, will present THE CHASE / GRAUBARD SHOW\, September 3-25\, featuring works by married couple\, Karen Chase and Paul Graubard. \n  \nKaren Chase paints abstract paintings. Paul Graubard paints narrative\, visionary works. Their work could not be more different. This show highlights a few of their collaborations\, as well as their individual paintings. When they make collaborations\, each is free to obliterate or change what the other has done. Chase\, primarily a writer and poet\, has been painting since she was a little girl. Painting is a basic activity for her\, like cooking or washing. Graubard began to paint when he was in his sixties\, giving up his practice as a psychologist.  A number of museums collect his work. \n  \nOne of their collaborations\, Hongera Obama\, Tanzanian Congratulations\, will be silently auctioned off. The proceeds will be donated to the restoration of the Clinton AME Zion Church in Great Barrington. The silent auction is available in person at the Lichtenstein or you may contact slemme@cityofpittsfield.org for information on how to bid on the item. \n  \nThere will be an opening reception on Friday\, September 3\, 5 to 7 pm\, during First Fridays Artswalk (gallery will stay open until 8 pm). Gallery hours are Wednesday-Friday\, 11 am to 3 pm or by appointment. On Friday\, September 24 at 5:30 pm\, the public is invited to attend Collaboration: A Conversation with Karen and Paul moderated by Jayne Benjulian. This event is a part of the county-wide ArtWeek Berkshires. \n  \nNUarts\, 311 North Street\, will host an Open Studios event on Friday\, September 3\, 5 to 8 pm\, during First Fridays Artswalk. Among the artists opening for the evening are Myk Daigle\, Caroline Kelley\, Shany Porras\, Ilene Richard\, and Sally Tiska Rice. New works will be on view by over a dozen artists in NUarts’ gallery space. \n  \nMyk Daigle will be showing and selling antique and restored fountain pens. Caroline Kelley will show new abstracts as well as her “transportation paintings” – works with small antique collage illustrations of people in transit. Shany Porras will show abstract paintings that visually translate what one experiences through music influenced by Bauhaus and the American abstract painters of the 20th century. Ilene Richard will show her original acrylic paintings including “Year of the Clown”. Sally Tiska Rice will show her most recent home portraits\, and Marney Schorr will show her new series of abstract jazz paintings done with gouache on black and white paper. \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature then + now by Ellie Spangler for the September Artswalk. Her paintings are based on hurried sketches of moving images or photographs that her consciousness has not fully processed. Recognizing the neurological aspect of storing memories and the influence images have on experience\, Stacey focuses on creating opportunities for shared meaning. Transforming incomplete memories\, her paintings bring new connections to the surface. \n  \nThe Unitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield\, 175 Wendell Avenue\, will present Number One Job\, a show by Erica Manville and Melissa Quirk for the month of September. SUMMARY:August First Fridays Artswalk
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy brand new indoor art shows\, murals\, and Artscape’s Pittsfield Paintboxes during the First Fridays Artswalk on Friday\, August 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, and all month long. You can view all locations at www.FirstFridaysArtswalk.com\, and new this year\, you can download the PocketSights app to follow a virtual walking tour on your cell phone. \n  \nThe Berkshire Art Association (BAA) is hosting “Everyone Is a Hero: A Comic and Cartoon Art Tribute to Our Local Heroes” at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue\, August 6 – 28\, featuring original artwork and signed auction items created by popular Marvel\, DC\, and The Simpsons comic book artists: Luke McDonnell\, Penim Loureiro\, and Bill Morrison. \n  \nThe show is curated by BAA board member and Pittsfield resident Lawrence Klein\, founder of the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York City. “I came up with a few themes\, and my idea was to ask American comic book artist Luke McDonnell and Portuguese comic book artist Penim Loureiro to create unique drawings from the same list of subjects\,” says Klein. “How do two artists from different parts of the world view the same subject matter? They took up the challenge of creating their own visions and the results are amazing.” The show also features sketches and autographed items for auction by Bill Morrison\, creative director of The Simpsons and Futurama\, and Patrick McDonnell\, creator of MUTTS. Local Berkshire artists will also show their illustration work. “The show brings together an impressive group of artists and the result is great fun\,” says BAA member Liz Bevilacqua. “You’ll see familiar heroes and heroines like Batman\, Iron Man\, and Harley Quinn in new and creative ways.” \n  \nThere will be a sneak peek of the exhibit on Friday\, August 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, during the First Fridays Artswalk\, and the opening party is Saturday\, August 7 from 3 to 6 pm. \n  \nFor the month of August\, The Marketplace Café\, 53 North Street\, will feature Finding Our Way Creations by Jess Frey. There will be an opening reception on Friday\, August 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, as part of First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nThis series of art is an expression of the transformational process of getting lost\, finding the way\, forgetting the way\, becoming the way\, and being the way. Each painting is accompanied by a poem\, telling a story\, sharing an experience\, and connecting written word to visual art. Through the relationship between written and visual art\, Frey’s hope is to support all of us together in the continued journey of finding our way. \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature Electric Color by Jesse Tobin McCauley for the August Artswalk. There will be a reception with the artist on Friday\, August 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, as part of First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nMcCauley’s paintings are mixed media on canvas and paper – bursts of bold\, bright\, saturated color. They evoke a feeling of happiness through the flood of interacting abstract color.\nThe Brothership Building Window at 141 North Street\, curated by IS183 Art School of the Berkshires\, will feature “Postapocalypsse and Calculation” by Rosemary Lamiacea for the month of August. \n  \nRosemary is an apprentice weaver interested in emergence\, rhythm\, and functional textiles. The textiles on view are selections from their first two years of exploring how to make new surfaces and what they can do. They were handwoven with wool\, cotton\, and linen on\, and in collaboration with\, centuries-old looms. Covering a range of familiar structures\, including plain weave\, twill\, M’s & O’s\, waffle weave\, and lace\, they try to take these techniques in new directions through juxtaposition\, color\, and construction. \n  \nThe Unitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield\, 175 Wendell Avenue\, will feature new photographs by Linda Merry in a show entitled The Superflight Exhibit: Finch Irruption 2020 for the month of August.
