(437 North Street). \nFeatured artists are Carly Holmes\, Riley Wilde\, Jesus Alicea\, and Kenny Davis. \nThere will be an opening reception with the artists during the August 1st First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm. \nThe exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday\, 10 am to 2 pm\, August 1 through August 25\, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. offices at 431 North Street. \nCarly Holmes is a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and describes herself as an emerging artist with a passion for creating art. “I have always loved creating art\,” Carly says. “As a child\, I was constantly drawing and crafting. I have explored drawing\, ceramics\, and 3-dimensional design. But painting with acrylics is where my true passion lies. I view my work as a reflection of my ever-evolving interests\, and as a personal outlet for self-expression.” \nThe Pittsfield Let It Shine! Public Art Partnership has selected Carly to co-create a new mural to be located at the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority Intermodal Center alongside mentor artist\, Jesse Tobin McCauley. The mural will debut at a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this summer. Carly is also the City of Pittsfield’s inaugural artist-in-residence\, and she is currently working out of studio space in the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts. \nRiley Wilde’s journey as an aspiring visual artist began in 2021 and has become vital in expressing herself in ways that words can’t anymore. Each painting is led by intuition and always with a new approach to create a vibrant and intriguing piece of work. \n“Sustainability is key to my process\, as it doesn’t feel right unless I’m practicing with a considerate mindset\,” says Riley. “Using recycled bottles for paint\, repurposing old canvases\, and catching excess drips to create new pieces is the only way I practice. Trying not to waste anything — creatively or emotionally.” \n“In the last year\, I’ve been expanding my practice while in collaboration with my partner and fellow artist\, Daniel Stone\, on some very large pieces. He has also challenged me to consider working with new surfaces\, styles\, and methods. Such as\, creating reliefs\, mosaics\, illustrating figures\, and using acrylic and wood surfaces. This has been rewarding and valuable in my growth as an artist and has made me feel seen. I’m looking forward to what my work continues to evolve into. Sometimes it’s messy and weird\, but also alive. A reflection of everything I’ve survived and everything I’ve yet to bloom into.” \nJesus Alicea is a multidisciplinary artist driven by a deep love for language and visual storytelling. His work explores the relationship between words and images—through logo design\, poster art\, cartoons\, poetry\, and creative writing. \nJesus creates playful yet purposeful visuals\, often using illustrated characters to deliver promotional messages in ways that text or live action can’t. “My design work focuses on clarity and meaning\, whether I’m crafting a logo or composing a visual narrative\,” says Jesus. \n“Storytelling is at the core of my practice. Through poetry and media projects\, I aim to connect with audiences in ways that are both creative and accessible. (437 North Street). \nFeatured artists are Susan Gail Catelotti\, Melissa Matsuki Lillie\, Anastasia Drayton\, and Eternity Joy Alice Williams. \nThere will be an opening reception with the artists during the September 5 First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm. \nThe exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday\, 10 am to 2 pm\, September 5 through September 25\, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. offices at 431 North Street. \nThe Pittsfield Paintbox Program is a program of the City of Pittsfield’s Office of Cultural Development. The Paintbox Program celebrates local artists\, enlivens the streetscape\, and discourages vandalism of utility boxes throughout the downtown. Four Paintbox designs will be installed in Pittsfield this summer by the artists in this exhibition at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. \nSusan Gail Catelotti is an artist\, illustrator\, and graphic designer based in Peru\, Massachusetts. She holds a degree in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and has illustrated more than 15 children’s books for a range of authors. Her work also includes public art and mural projects all rooted in her love for storytelling through image. \nDeeply inspired by the forests\, wildlife\, and quiet magic of the Berkshires\, Susan often begins her creative process by exploring the natural world around her. Her paintings and illustrations are filled with creatures—both real and imagined—that add a sense of whimsy\, weirdness\, and delight to every scene. Whether she’s illustrating a picture book or painting a woodland tableau\, her work invites viewers to pause\, look closer\, and rediscover a sense of wonder. \nMelissa Matsuki Lillie is painter whose artwork references natural forms using a personal visual language of vibrant colors and complex layers to reflect on the macroscopic and microscopic world. Her paintings evoke a sense of space that has been flattened and layered\, revealing strands and structures of line and color interacting fluidly with hidden landscapes. In addition to painting\, she frequently works sculpturally\, creating forms that celebrate both line and color. \nBorn in Maryland\, Melissa attended the Maryland Institute College of Art where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She currently lives and works in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. \nFor over two decades\, Anastasia Drayton has had the privilege of working as a horticulturist in the Berkshire landscape. This time spent observing plants and ecosystems has deepened her understanding of the natural world and its connection to human-made spaces. Her work—both in horticulture and art—is rooted in yielding to nature\, allowing it to shape and inspire her designs. \nWatercolor plays a central role in Anastasia’s process\, applied in a way that allows it to move freely across the surface – guided more by gravity and chance than by control. Anastasia works in other mediums as well\, but always with a sense that she is only gently guiding the creative process. She often incorporates natural elements like branches and lichens whose forms mirror organic patterns\, allowing nature to shape the composition. In this way\, the human hand becomes secondary; instead\, she trusts the materials and environment to create their own beauty. By letting nature guide each piece\, it reminds the viewer that we don’t always need to cling so tightly—things have a way of unfolding as they’re meant to\, naturally and inevitably. Anastasia finds so much resilience\, hope\, and peace in the natural world\, and through her art\, she aims to honor that connection and invite others to see the world with the same reverence. \nEternity Joy Alice Williams is currently pursuing her associate’s degree in Fine Arts at Berkshire Community College. When creating works of art\, she usually likes using Prismacolor colored pencils and oil pastels\, along with other materials. She’s always had a love for drawing\, but recently she has had more of a focus on different vegetables and fruits. His art reflects his personal life experiences\, particularly his time living and traveling abroad. Before becoming a full-time artist in Pittsfield\, Peter lived and taught science in Belgium\, Brazil\, Mexico\, England\, Italy\, and California. “I appreciate the challenge of working in marble and its potential to last for centuries. At the end of a series the block is completely carved away. The dry felting process involves layering various colors of wool using specialized barbed needles to combine loose wool fibers. \n  \nSanctum Gallery\, 148 North Street\, will present the art of award-winning Navajo painter Walter Dan during the First Fridays Artswalk on Friday\, May 1 from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nMonica White will be showcasing the celebrated work of her father\, Walter Dan\, a renowned Navajo artist. The exhibition offers visitors a rare chance to experience the depth\, tradition\, and storytelling of Navajo painting through Walter Dan’s powerful artwork. Monica will share the powerful stories of her father’s art with us. \n  \n“Sharing my father’s work is a way to honor our family and culture\,” said White. “Each piece carries the history\, spirit\, and creativity of our heritage.” \n  \nWalter’s paintings consist of serene southwestern life with landscapes\, animals\, and portraits most influenced by his Diné and cowboy culture. Walter focuses on using acrylic\, oil\, pencil\, and ink. He was an art student at the Institute of American Indian Arts-IAIA in Santa Fe\, New Mexico\, in the early 1970’s. Walter’s most prominent influence and mentor is Allen Houser\, a highly regarded Native American artist\, and his IAIA instructor. \n  \nPittsfield High School will present its Senior Show and AP Placement Portfolios for the month of May at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue. These dedicated students have spent years developing their artistic voices\, often taking multiple art classes throughout their high school journey. In addition to painting\, she frequently works sculpturally\, creating forms that celebrate both line and color. Born in Maryland\, Melissa attended the Maryland Institute College of Art where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She currently lives and works in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. \n  \nLucie Castaldo is a visual artist based in the beautiful Berkshires. Her work is characterized by a blend of artistic techniques – combining printmaking\, cut paper\, collage\, and photography. She holds a BA in Art History and Education from Mount Holyoke College\, which informs her interdisciplinary approach to art. \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature “Tree of Life Series” – acrylic paintings by Mary Davidson\, May 1 through June 30\, 2026. \n  \nThere will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday\, May 1 from 5 to 8 pm during the First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nDowntown Pittsfield\, Inc. and First Fridays Artswalk will feature Peter Vacchina as the May “Art in the Park” artist. \n  \nPeter will be popped up in Palace Park (near 122 North Street) from 5 to 8 pm\, inviting the community to add pieces to a “made-on-the-spot” mosaic and discussing his process with all who are interested. \n  \nPeter is a sculptor working primarily in marble\, mosaic\, and the occasional ice sculpture. His art reflects his personal life experiences\, particularly his time living and traveling abroad. Before becoming a full-time artist in Pittsfield\, Peter lived and taught science in Belgium\, Brazil\, Mexico\, England\, Italy\, and California. “I appreciate the challenge of working in marble and its potential to last for centuries. Stop by during the June 5 First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm to take a look! \nBrent uses patterned recycled papers and fabrics in place of traditional canvas and paper. These works depict the post-industrial landscape through a tension of decay and renewal of image\, material\, and abstraction. Ridge is a Berkshires-based artist whose work delves into themes of industrial decay\, natural beauty\, and human resilience. A local artist\, originally from Flint\, MI\, Brent has an artistic history in NYC\, abroad\, and in Boston before resettling in the Berkshires. He is currently the art teacher at Reid Middle School in Pittsfield\, where he inspires young artists. \nSanctum Gallery\, 148 North Street\, will feature artists Richard Way and Ed Moran during the First Fridays Artswalk on Friday\, June 5 from 5 to 8 pm. \nRichard Way’s work has been described as ethereal\, spiritual\, and quietly evocative\, at times revealing an undercurrent of tension or subtle humor. Rooted in an intuitive approach\, the practice functions as a form of visual journaling\, translating fleeting thoughts and emotional states into layered compositions. Drawing primarily from an inward source\, the artist engages the external world through a distinct visual language of symbol and metaphor. The resulting works unfold with a dreamlike logic\, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where interpretation remains open and deeply personal. \nEd Moran is a painter based in Berkshire County. His creative pursuits also include singing and songwriting\, often in collaboration with fellow musicians. When not immersed in his artistic work\, he serves as a nurse in the Berkshires. \nMoran’s work is rooted in both imagination and lived experience\, bridging creative expression with a deep sense of care for the community. \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts at 28 Renne Avenue will present the 2026 OLLI Art Exhibition\, a showcase of work by members of OLLI at Berkshire Community College\, June 3-26. \nThe exhibition features work by 39 artists in a range of media. OLLI at BCC is a volunteer-driven\, inclusive learning community of adults 50+ offering diverse educational programs\, social interaction\, and community engagement. His drawings of landscape and still life are inspired by the sheer beauty of the subjects\, and his portraiture mainly consists of historical figures who have impacted his life. \nNicole Fecteau’s art is an expression of the interconnectedness of life\, the unending tapestries of stories we weave as communal beings deeply connected to each other and also profoundly integrated within our natural world.
