She taught acting at the NYS Theatre Institute Theater Arts School\, where she created multiple original productions with high school students. She has directed a number of productions at CAU\, has directed multiple times at Theater Voices\, and served as the lead teaching artist for WAM’s 2024 Elder Ensemble program\, where she will return to teach and direct the Elder Ensemble in 2025. Michael has also worked as a consultant in the formation and development of the Playback Theater of the Berkshires. \n  \nAlthough Michael does not identify as a visual artist\, for a period of about 6 months\, 20 years ago\, she was led to create a series of charcoal drawings\, depicting the evolving conflict occurring in an alternate world. Each drawing in this series was created while listening to “Kronos Quartet Performs Philip Glass” and was created only with grayscale charcoal\, paper\, and finger drawing. \n  \nThe Marketplace Cafe\, 53 North Street\, will feature Mary Davidson’s stamped paintings in her “Abstract Series” for the month of August. Mary Davidson is an artist living in the Berkshires. Her passion for art runs deep. Mary’s abstract paintings in this exhibit are a part of a series of 40 paintings. There will be an Opening Reception with the artist during the August 1 First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 7 pm. \n  \nThe Clock Tower Artists at 75 South Church Street will host an open studios event on Friday\, August 1\, 5 to 8 pm. (437 North Street). \n  \nFeatured artists are Carly Holmes\, Riley Wilde\, Jesus Alicea\, and Kenny Davis. \n  \nThere will be an opening reception with the artists during the August 1st First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nThe exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday\, 10 am to 2 pm\, August 1 through August 25\, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. offices at 431 North Street. \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature artworks by Sally Tiska Rice now through September 1. This beautifully restored boutique hotel blends 19th-century architecture with sleek\, contemporary design — and is the perfect backdrop for Sally’s richly layered light-filled artwork. \n  \nMeet the artist on Friday\, August 1\, from 5 to 8 pm\, at a reception during the First Fridays Artswalk. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Sally in person\, explore her creative process\, and hear the inspiring stories behind her work. Her paintings draw from deep wells of personal experience\, including her journey as a spinal injury survivor—and now\, as she bravely faces breast cancer with strength and creativity. Her art is not just visual — it’s emotional\, healing\, and vibrantly alive. \n  \nSally\, a lifelong Berkshire resident\, has worked in many mediums\, including watercolor\, acrylic\, oils\, pastels\, and mixed media. Her style blends atmosphere\, memory\, and light\, creating emotionally resonant works that have been commissioned and collected internationally. With a 25-year career at Crane & Co. hand bordering luxury stationery for names like Cartier\, Tiffany & Co.\, and Aretha Franklin\, her artistic pedigree is matched only by her passion and perseverance. \n  \nRoots and Dreams and Mustard Seeds\, 119 Fenn Street\, will present eco-friendly products by Aisha B. and the Cosmic CoArt Cooperative’s Cosmic Butterfly Procession project during an artist reception on Friday\, August 1\, 5 to 8 pm\, during the First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nArtist and artisan Aisha B. will be showcasing her natural handcrafted eco-friendly products which include reusable concrete candles\, zero-waste soaps\, clay jewelry\, canvas art\, and more alongside the Cosmic CoArt Cooperative’s Cosmic Butterfly Procession project. \n  \nThe Cosmic CoArt Cooperative is a multi-talented artist cooperative that strives to thread together common strengths through the living arts. They sincerely feel creating a culture of a “beloved community” while crossing borders of race\, class\, culture\, language\, ability\, and creed can be done hand in hand through the forces of creativity and the human phenomenon of art. \n  \nArtists include Annalisa Jacobsen\, Peppa\, Aisha B.\, Drake\, Jean Minuchin\, Macarena\, Beth Fairservis\, Matt Brinton\, Nicole Fecteau\, and Olly. \n  \nTKG Real Estate\, 137 North Street\, will feature “For the Love of Art” by Patricia Carchedi-Coakley through August 31. There will be a reception with the artist on Friday\, August 1\, 5 to 8 pm. \n  \n“I’m a painter who thrives on artistic exploration\,” says Patricia. “You’ll find my easel graced with a new adventure every time – from the bold strokes of abstract expressionism to the delicate details of realism\, and everything in between. I truly believe that each style offers a unique lens through which to see and interpret the world\, and I love nothing more than diving into them all!” \n  \nMethuselah Bar & Lounge\, 391 North Street\, will feature painting and drawings from figurative artist Mollie Kellogg’s Incognito Witch Selfie Series in the back room at Methuselah; open Mon–Sat\, 5 pm to midnight. \n  \nIn a celebration of “hidden magick\,” the subjects in Mollie Kellogg’s Selfie Series shared photos of themselves dressed as their inner Incognito Witch. Mollie made selections from these submissions to paint for the series. \n  \nCreative Sorceress Mollie Kellogg’s Incognito Witch Project has conjured a magickal world through fine art\, music\, video and theatre since 2009. Kellogg lives in Dalton and works at the Clock Tower Building\, Studio 334B\, in Pittsfield. Mollie premiered her play\, Incognito Witch the Musical\, in Becket earlier this year. \n  \nDownload the Downtown Pittsfield app in the App Store or on Google Play to follow a virtual walking tour of art on your cell phone. Direct link: https://downtownpittsfield.stqry.app/list/56229 \n  \nA free Art Shuttle provided and operated by RSVP Volunteers will take you to five locations throughout downtown during the First Fridays at Five on August 1. SUMMARY:“Art in the Park” with Ma’leek Adams-Powell (First Fridays at Five)
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and First Fridays Artswalk are pleased to announce the August “Art in the Park” artist at First Fridays at Five is Ma’leek Adams-Powell. \nMa’leek will be popped up in Palace Park (near 122 North Street)\, inviting the community to watch him create live and discussing his process with all who are interested. \nMa’leek Adams-Powell is a multidisciplinary artist from Pittsfield\, Massachusetts\, working between the Berkshires and NYC. His work blends graffiti\, mixed media\, and 3D Elements; often using old spray paint cans\, large canvases\, and overlooked material to explore memory\, decay\, and survival. Rooted in hip-hop and childhood nostalgia\, Ma’leek paints the beauty in what’s broken or overlooked. His mission is simple: to be seen amongst the rubble when everything else fades. “Art is my record. My resistance. A reminder that I was here.” \nIn the case of inclement weather\, “Art in the Park” with Ma’leek Adams-Powell will be inside the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts at 28 Renee Avenue. \n“Art in the Park” is supported by the Feigenbaum Foundation.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Let It Shine! Artist Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and Framework will feature a brand-new “Let It Shine! Artist Exhibition” featuring 4 local artists at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. (437 North Street). \nFeatured artists are Carly Holmes\, Riley Wilde\, Jesus Alicea\, and Kenny Davis. \nThere will be an opening reception with the artists during the August 1st First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm. \nThe exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday\, 10 am to 2 pm\, August 1 through August 25\, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. offices at 431 North Street. \nCarly Holmes is a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and describes herself as an emerging artist with a passion for creating art. “I have always loved creating art\,” Carly says. “As a child\, I was constantly drawing and crafting. I have explored drawing\, ceramics\, and 3-dimensional design. But painting with acrylics is where my true passion lies. I view my work as a reflection of my ever-evolving interests\, and as a personal outlet for self-expression.” \nThe Pittsfield Let It Shine! Public Art Partnership has selected Carly to co-create a new mural to be located at the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority Intermodal Center alongside mentor artist\, Jesse Tobin McCauley. The mural will debut at a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this summer. Carly is also the City of Pittsfield’s inaugural artist-in-residence\, and she is currently working out of studio space in the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts. \nRiley Wilde’s journey as an aspiring visual artist began in 2021 and has become vital in expressing herself in ways that words can’t anymore. Each painting is led by intuition and always with a new approach to create a vibrant and intriguing piece of work. \n“Sustainability is key to my process\, as it doesn’t feel right unless I’m practicing with a considerate mindset\,” says Riley. “Using recycled bottles for paint\, repurposing old canvases\, and catching excess drips to create new pieces is the only way I practice. Trying not to waste anything — creatively or emotionally.” \n“In the last year\, I’ve been expanding my practice while in collaboration with my partner and fellow artist\, Daniel Stone\, on some very large pieces. He has also challenged me to consider working with new surfaces\, styles\, and methods. Such as\, creating reliefs\, mosaics\, illustrating figures\, and using acrylic and wood surfaces. This has been rewarding and valuable in my growth as an artist and has made me feel seen. I’m looking forward to what my work continues to evolve into. Sometimes it’s messy and weird\, but also alive. A reflection of everything I’ve survived and everything I’ve yet to bloom into.” \nJesus Alicea is a multidisciplinary artist driven by a deep love for language and visual storytelling. His work explores the relationship between words and images—through logo design\, poster art\, cartoons\, poetry\, and creative writing. \nJesus creates playful yet purposeful visuals\, often using illustrated characters to deliver promotional messages in ways that text or live action can’t. “My design work focuses on clarity and meaning\, whether I’m crafting a logo or composing a visual narrative\,” says Jesus. \n“Storytelling is at the core of my practice. Through poetry and media projects\, I aim to connect with audiences in ways that are both creative and accessible. I’m always open to feedback\, collaboration\, and new creative challenges.” \nKenny Davis is a lifelong resident of Pittsfield who has worked on several murals around the city. “In my senior year at Pittsfield High School\, I both experimented with my 2D style and created 3D works to tell my unique story\,” says Kenny. “Now that I am eighteen years old\, I am working on developing a vibrant style that makes me proud!” \nThe gallery at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. is funded in part by a grant from the Pittsfield Cultural Council; a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

SUMMARY:Let It Shine!

SUMMARY:The Pitt - Perennial & Friction Fit
DESCRIPTION:Hot Plate Brewing Co. has teamed up with Pittsfield-based businesses and organizations including Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. to bring you a free outdoor summer music series in Dunham Mall. They’ll be a beer garden\, food vendors\, and awesome performers! \nPerennial is an art punk three-piece from New England. The band’s sound – built from the sharp minimalism of guitar\, electric organ\, and drums – is a kinetic collage of mod pop\, 90s post-hardcore\, post-bop jazz\, and 60s soul. The band’s ferocious live show – quick and electrifying – has already become the stuff of DIY legend\, short bursts of manic energy with barely a moment to catch your breath: not to be missed. Perennial’s new album\, Art History is available everywhere that chic modernist punk is sold.

SUMMARY:Let It Shine!
