SUMMARY:First Fridays: “Art in the Park” with Jill McLean
DESCRIPTION:Join Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and First Fridays Artswalk as they feature Jill McLean as the September “Art in the Park” artist. Jill will be drawing a large ink sketch of First Friday during the September 4 First Fridays at Five from 5 to 8 pm. \nAs an unofficial finale to the 2026 season of the Urban Sketching Meetup\, Jill will be drawing a large ink sketch of First Friday and invites viewers to come add color to the scene and enjoy how the vibrancy\, liveliness\, and unpredictability of watercolor paint can capture life in interesting ways. \nUrban Sketching Meetup is a free gathering that Jill hosts once a month from June to September. Running every year since 2020\, the meetup is an opportunity for people who want to come out and try urban sketching (sketching in public places from life) but may not want to try it alone\, or simply want a casual excuse to do art together. \nEach event\, a downtown Pittsfield location is designated as the meet up spot and participants explore the area with their chosen art supplies. You can practice urban sketching outdoors or indoors and draw anything you see in front of you. It’s a great way to get to know your local community. \nJill McLean is an artist and Pittsfield native inspired by a wide range of local subjects\, from still lifes and florals to landscapes and animals. Working in watercolor and oil\, Jill’s portfolio includes everything from urban sketches and plein air paintings to planned series and formal studio pieces. Often taking her art outside of the studio\, you may find her painting on local hiking trails and at community events. \n“Art in the Park” is supported in part by the Feigenbaum Foundation. \n“Art in the Park” is supported in part by a grant from the Mass Cultural Council\, and a grant from the Pittsfield Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

SUMMARY:First Fridays at Five: Misty Blues
DESCRIPTION:Persip Park\, 175 North Street\, will feature a live performance by Misty Blues from 5 to 8 pm. Enjoy a beer garden from Hot Plate Brewing Co. and local food vendors within the vicinity. \n  \n2019 International Blues Challenge finalist\, Misty Blues\, is fronted by lead singer/band founder Gina Coleman. The band is based out of Berkshire County playing original and traditional blues with hints of jazz\, soul\, funk and tent revival gospel since 1999. The band has recorded with Eric Gales\, Charles Neville and Joe Louis Walker\, and opened for contemporary blues artists like Mike Zito\, Albert Castiglia\, Tab Benoit\, James Montgomery\, John Primer\, Roomful Of Blues\, Albert Cummings and Shemekia Copeland. Misty Blues performs extensively throughout New England and has toured the continental U.S.\, Canada\, and the UK. The band has been nominated for a few Independent Blues Music Awards\, and their original recordings have broad international airplay. In 2024\, the band had a song they released selected for use in a U.S. Presidential campaign ad. \n  \nIn the case of inclement weather\, Misty Blues will be at Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church\, 27 East Street.

DESCRIPTION:Berkshire Art Center (BAC) will host Making Marks by Caroline Kelley at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. located at 437 North Street. \nThere will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday\, October 2\, from 5 to 7 pm at 437 North Street. \nMaking Marks offers an opportunity to experience Kelley’s ongoing investigation of the mark as both gesture and language. Through drawing and painting\, she explores the ways seemingly spontaneous lines\, shapes\, and layers can accumulate into something more intentional — an expressive visual vocabulary shaped by instinct\, observation\, and the rhythms of the world around her. \nCaroline Kelley is an abstract artist working primarily in acrylic paint\, collage\, charcoal\, and colored pencil. Her process is intuitive and exploratory\, guided by the evolving interplay of color\, shape\, line\, and texture. Deeply inspired by the natural beauty of the Berkshires and the vibrant artistic community that surrounds her\, Kelley creates expressive\, dynamic works that invite viewers into a world of movement\, energy\, and discovery. \nBorn and raised in the Berkshires\, Kelley studied art at Bard College and has continued to deepen her practice through a range of immersive learning experiences\, including studies at the Woodstock School of Art in Woodstock\, New York\, and the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill in Truro\, Massachusetts. She has also been a member of Drawing Galaxy\, a collective of abstract artists whose work has been exhibited throughout the Hudson Valley. \nKelley currently lives and works in Pittsfield\, Massachusetts\, where she is a proud member of the Clock Tower Artists. Her studio\, located in the vibrant Clock Tower Business Park at Studio 306\, 75 South Church Street\, opens to the public during First Fridays at Five and at select times throughout the year. \nHer work has been exhibited throughout the Berkshires\, the Hudson Valley\, Southern Vermont\, and Hawaii. Each place has offered its own landscape\, atmosphere\, and creative influence\, contributing new layers to an ongoing artistic exploration rooted in color\, gesture\, and the possibilities of abstraction. \nThe exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday\, 10 am to 2 pm\, October 2 through October 29\, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. offices at 431 North Street\, or by appointment.

DESCRIPTION:Hotel on North will feature an exhibition of mixed media and collage by Jody King Camarra October through December of 2026. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday\, October 2\, from 5 to 7 pm. \nJody King Camarra is a mixed-media artist\, illustrator\, and teaching artist living and working in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Her studio practice explores the possibilities of collage\, gel-plate monoprinting\, found papers\, and other layered materials. \nCamarra’s work begins with experimentation. She prints\, tears\, cuts\, prints\, layers\, obscures\, and rebuilds\, allowing both intention and chance to shape the final piece. Her process often leaves behind traces of what came before: torn edges\, buried marks\, unexpected textures\, and fragments that suggest memory\, change\, and transformation. \nThis exhibition at Hotel on North features mostly new mixed-media\, monoprints and collages created in her Ashley Falls studio. Together\, the works reflect an ongoing interest in the imperfect\, physical\, and intuitive nature of making art by hand.

The Kids’ Zone will feature a bounce house\, Halloween-themed arts & crafts\, games\, face painting\, balloon twisting\, giveaways\, a live DJ\, and more! All Kids’ Zone activities are free\, and costumes are encouraged. \nThere will be Face Painting and Balloon Twisting by BTC Family Entertainment (Bowey the Clown and Magic Brushes). Balloon twisting will be from 11 am to 12:30 pm only. \nDJ Bengey will provide the Halloween party jams\, Carr Hardware will provide the Bounce House\, and Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. will host a Halloween Paint & Sip activity. \nBerkshire Museum will be there with an Ancient Egypt related art activity and Large Dinosaur Bone Blocks for kids to make their own dinosaurs.
