DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and Framework will feature a brand-new “Let It Shine! Artist Exhibition” featuring 4 local artists at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. (437 North Street). \nFeatured artists are Carly Holmes\, Riley Wilde\, Jesus Alicea\, and Kenny Davis. \nThere will be an opening reception with the artists during the August 1st First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm. \nThe exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday\, 10 am to 2 pm\, August 1 through August 25\, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. offices at 431 North Street. \nCarly Holmes is a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and describes herself as an emerging artist with a passion for creating art. “I have always loved creating art\,” Carly says. “As a child\, I was constantly drawing and crafting. I have explored drawing\, ceramics\, and 3-dimensional design. But painting with acrylics is where my true passion lies. I view my work as a reflection of my ever-evolving interests\, and as a personal outlet for self-expression.” \nThe Pittsfield Let It Shine! Public Art Partnership has selected Carly to co-create a new mural to be located at the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority Intermodal Center alongside mentor artist\, Jesse Tobin McCauley. The mural will debut at a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this summer. Carly is also the City of Pittsfield’s inaugural artist-in-residence\, and she is currently working out of studio space in the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts. \nRiley Wilde’s journey as an aspiring visual artist began in 2021 and has become vital in expressing herself in ways that words can’t anymore. Each painting is led by intuition and always with a new approach to create a vibrant and intriguing piece of work. \n“Sustainability is key to my process\, as it doesn’t feel right unless I’m practicing with a considerate mindset\,” says Riley. “Using recycled bottles for paint\, repurposing old canvases\, and catching excess drips to create new pieces is the only way I practice. Trying not to waste anything — creatively or emotionally.” \n“In the last year\, I’ve been expanding my practice while in collaboration with my partner and fellow artist\, Daniel Stone\, on some very large pieces. He has also challenged me to consider working with new surfaces\, styles\, and methods. Such as\, creating reliefs\, mosaics\, illustrating figures\, and using acrylic and wood surfaces. This has been rewarding and valuable in my growth as an artist and has made me feel seen. I’m looking forward to what my work continues to evolve into. Sometimes it’s messy and weird\, but also alive. A reflection of everything I’ve survived and everything I’ve yet to bloom into.” \nJesus Alicea is a multidisciplinary artist driven by a deep love for language and visual storytelling. His work explores the relationship between words and images—through logo design\, poster art\, cartoons\, poetry\, and creative writing. \nJesus creates playful yet purposeful visuals\, often using illustrated characters to deliver promotional messages in ways that text or live action can’t. “My design work focuses on clarity and meaning\, whether I’m crafting a logo or composing a visual narrative\,” says Jesus. \n“Storytelling is at the core of my practice. Through poetry and media projects\, I aim to connect with audiences in ways that are both creative and accessible. I’m always open to feedback\, collaboration\, and new creative challenges.” \nKenny Davis is a lifelong resident of Pittsfield who has worked on several murals around the city. “In my senior year at Pittsfield High School\, I both experimented with my 2D style and created 3D works to tell my unique story\,” says Kenny. “Now that I am eighteen years old\, I am working on developing a vibrant style that makes me proud!” \nThe gallery at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. is funded in part by a grant from the Pittsfield Cultural Council; a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

His work blends graffiti\, mixed media\, and 3D Elements; often using old spray paint cans\, large canvases\, and overlooked material to explore memory\, decay\, and survival. Rooted in hip-hop and childhood nostalgia\, Ma’leek paints the beauty in what’s broken or overlooked. His mission is simple: to be seen amongst the rubble when everything else fades. “Art is my record. My resistance. Artwork is available for sale and artists earn a commission on each work sold. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts is open Wednesday through Friday\, 11 am to 3 pm\, and by appointment. The show will be on view through August 22. \n  \nThe Creahub Makerspace by Latinas413 will host two featured exhibitions at 139 North Street: “Blooming Together\, Strengthening Our Roots” by Shelsy Rodriguez and “Between Generations” by Luiza Folegatti. \n  \n“Blooming Together\, Strengthening Our Roots” is a mural by Shelsy Rodriguez on permanent display at the CreaHub MakerSpace\, which celebrates the strength and beauty of Latina women\, honoring their diverse roots and experiences. Inspired by the flora of Latin America\, this collective work uplifts immigrant identity through visual and written storytelling in both English and Spanish. It is accompanied by a community-written narrative exploring migration\, resilience\, and sisterhood. \n  \n“Between Generations” is a photography and interview-based installation by Luiza Folegatti on view now through August 6. \n  \n“Between Generations” explores motherhood and migration through photography\, interviews\, and workshops with Latina mothers and daughters in the Berkshires. The project documents their stories\, resilience\, and shared dreams while examining the generational ties that shape identity and community. \n  \nLiving in Recovery\, 75 North Street\, will feature artworks by Ms. Michael Kennedy on Friday\, August 1\, from 5 to 8 pm\, at a reception with the artist. \n  \nMichael Kennedy is an actor\, playwright\, director\, and producer\, and the founder and Artistic Director of Creative Action Unlimited\, a theater/film production company dedicated to the collaborative creation of works about social issues. She taught acting at the NYS Theatre Institute Theater Arts School\, where she created multiple original productions with high school students. She has directed a number of productions at CAU\, has directed multiple times at Theater Voices\, and served as the lead teaching artist for WAM’s 2024 Elder Ensemble program\, where she will return to teach and direct the Elder Ensemble in 2025. Michael has also worked as a consultant in the formation and development of the Playback Theater of the Berkshires. \n  \nAlthough Michael does not identify as a visual artist\, for a period of about 6 months\, 20 years ago\, she was led to create a series of charcoal drawings\, depicting the evolving conflict occurring in an alternate world. Each drawing in this series was created while listening to “Kronos Quartet Performs Philip Glass” and was created only with grayscale charcoal\, paper\, and finger drawing. \n  \nThe Marketplace Cafe\, 53 North Street\, will feature Mary Davidson’s stamped paintings in her “Abstract Series” for the month of August. Mary Davidson is an artist living in the Berkshires. Her passion for art runs deep. Mary’s abstract paintings in this exhibit are a part of a series of 40 paintings. There will be an Opening Reception with the artist during the August 1 First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 7 pm. \n  \nThe Clock Tower Artists at 75 South Church Street will host an open studios event on Friday\, August 1\, 5 to 8 pm. Clock Tower Artists (CTA) is the largest and most diverse contemporary\, working artists’ group in Berkshire County. Now numbering two dozen working creatives\, the Clock Tower Artists Open Studios will feature original paintings\, prints\, photographs\, and sculptures. Figures find themselves bathed in the sun as they dot the landscape and contemplate their surroundings. Led by Ethan Robbins (vocals/guitar/mandolin) and Ariel Bernstein (vocals/percussion/banjo)\, the Boston-based duo released their fifth full-length album in the fall of 2023. \nPunctuated by tight harmonies and skillful musicianship\, Cold Chocolate has quickly gained recognition for their original music and high-energy shows. The band has shared bills with Leftover Salmon\, David Grisman\, and Angelique Kidjo\, and regularly performs at venues and music festivals across the country. Jason Verlinde of The Fretboard Journal\, who covered the band’s FreshGrass Festival set\, noted “there were plenty of magical moments…I will never forget [watching] Cold Chocolate perform.” Kathy Sands-Boehmer of No Depression raved\, “[Ethan] feels the music in his heart and soul and it shows when he plays. DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. has announced a new summer dance series titled “Rhythmscape” on Dunham Mall\, select Sunday afternoons from 6 to 8 pm\, June 1 – August 31. Dunham Mall can be located by entering 100 North Street on your GPS. \nEach session will highlight a different rhythm and instructor from our local community\, reflecting the many identities that make Pittsfield home. Rhythmscape is free and open to all and encourages everyone to experience the joy of movement and the beauty of cultural exchange. No experience is necessary to participate. \nElevate your Salsa from the ground up in this fun and dynamic class! We’ll start with strong foundations and build on them through body movement\, arm styling\, footwork\, and musicality. Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced dancer\, you’ll be challenged in the best way — learning to move with rhythm\, confidence\, and using your own unique flair. \nCome solo or with a partner—everyone is welcome! \nAlso\, experience Bachata\, merengue\, cumbia\, samba\, and forro in a guided open social dance. \nLuana Dias David is a performing artist and choreographer based in the Berkshires. With over two decades of experience\, Luana embodies a profound passion for dance and a steadfast commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement. Hailing from São Paulo\, Brazil\, Luana excels in various dance forms including Samba\, Capoeira\, Break dancing\, Latin dance\, Jazz\, and Classic Ballet. Her rich cultural heritage is evident in her teaching and choreography\, ensuring that every performance is an authentic blend of tradition and innovation.
