Both events have been moved to the McKay Street Parking Garage due to Saturday’s rainy forecast. \n\nDowntown Pittsfield… It’s Alive! Block Party: Saturday\, October 21\, 1 to 5 pm\, inside the McKay Street Parking Garage \n\nTo park for the day\, enter the Parking Garage via the Depot Street entrance for access to the upper parking levels. The event will be on the McKay Street level. \n\nThe It’s Alive! Block Party will feature a Marketplace with 20+ Vendors (see vendor list below)\, a Beer Garden with Wandering Star Craft Brewery\, and food from BB’s Hot Spot. Musician Evan Lanoue will play from 1 to 2:30 pm\, and the band Vaguely Pagan will play from 3:30 to 5 pm. There will be a performance by Opal Raven Cirque at 1:30\, 2:30\, and 3:30 pm featuring swords\, scarves\, and fans. \n\nEvan Lanoue\, a local singer-songwriter\, found his passion for music at a young age by learning his favorite Beatles songs on piano. These individuals took photos around the city of what recovery\, addiction\, and hope mean to them. The outcome of this work is impressive – over 40 images and quotes from individuals in our community\, expressing themselves in a way not often heard or seen. \n  \nThe reception with the artists on October 6th is part of Living in Recovery’s continued celebration of National Recovery Month. \n  \nDowntown Pittsfield\, Inc. has partnered with Katunemo: Art & Healing to bring “The Journey III”\, an exhibition featuring the work of fifteen artists from different countries in Latin America and Europe\, to their conference room at 33 Dunham Mall for one-night only\, Friday\, October 6\, from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nThe featured artists are Sheila Franco\, David Melchor\, Derly Toloza\, Diana Rodriguez\, Juanita Latorre Silva\, Nicole Herasme\, Shelsy Rodriguez\, Thayna Dias\, Estiven Sosa\, Micaela Soasti\, Valentina Morales\, Marina Dominguez\, Angie Soasti\, Clara Guatta\, and Claire Saussol. \n  \nThe artists will share about their culture\, language\, traditions\, roots and different perspectives about life. This free live painting demonstration will be from 5 to 7 pm during the October 6 First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nNicole Herasme was born in a small town in Santiago de los caballeros Dominican Republic\, and moved to the United States when she was 19 looking for better opportunities. She has recently found a great passion for photography and modeling\, dedicated to learning and improving in these branches. She enjoys expressing her emotions through art such as painting\, singing\, dancing and poetry. The October 6th Art Market will feature local artists\, artisans\, makers\, and Lucia’s Latin Kitchen. \n  \nStar nii\, a professional percussionist and composer from Accra\, Ghanna\, will play live at Hot Plate Brewing\, Co. on Friday\, October 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. \n  \nVictor Nii Amoo\, known as Star nii\, is a multi-instrumentalist who was drawn to the alluring power of sound and rhythm at the age of 9. Star nii has a great vocabulary of rhythms and performs and hosts workshops locally and internationally. \n  \nThe Let It Shine! Public Art Partnership is thrilled to unveil an original mural on the back of 26 Dunham Mall by Argentine/American artist Ramiro Davaro-Comas during the October 6 Artswalk. The mural is funded by a MassDevelopment Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) Creative Catalyst Grant. \n  \nThe Clock Tower Artists at 75 South Church Street will host an open studios event in their beautiful and ever-expanding space on Friday\, October 6\, and every First Friday of the month through December\, from 5 to 8 pm\, and on Saturday\, October 7\, and every first Saturday of the month through December\, from 11 am to 4 pm. Witness the artists’ artistic processes firsthand and be captivated by an eclectic blend of masterpieces that will enchant and inspire you. \n  \nArtists with Open Studios in September include: Deborah H. Carter\, Joan Palano Ciolfi\, Marion H. Grant\, Stacey Healy\, Caroline Kelley\, Bruce Laird\, Mark Mellinger\, Linda Petrocine\, Shany Porras\, Sally Tiska Rice\, Ilene Richard\, Audrey Shachnow\, and Stefanie Weber. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renee Avenue\, will feature “CHAOS: Paintings and Drawings by Julio Granda”\, on view October 6 through November 17. The show will be on view during the First Fridays Artswalk on Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 8 pm. \n  \n“Always the explorer\, Julio Granda has once again set his impassioned sights on new territory\,” says Barry Sternlieb. “Coming to grips with a profound life-altering loss at 88\, he digs into the sudden new reality with a vengeance\, making each of these 54 paintings a defiantly unique symbiotic union of language and image\, a single furious word empowered by abstraction to grasp the matter of meaning so deeply rooted in his own personal chaos it moves us beyond ourselves with a universal touch that eternal loss alone embodies.” \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature Soil Paintings by Sarah Horne\, October 3 through November 29. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday\, October 6\, from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \n“This exhibit is about the mixture of organic matter\, minerals\, gases\, and liquids—the alchemy that makes soil\,” says Sarah. “Soil is elemental to the environment that keeps me alive: soil and its nutrients are fundamental to growing and literally the earth beneath my feet. I feel that our souls\, our beginnings and our endings\, lie low in our bodies as the soil that helps sustain us lies low on the earth. \n  \nThese paintings are a representation of what I see when I look directly down at soil. The paintings are multi-layered\, complex and earthy in tones. I want to capture the movement\, depth and complexity of soil in these paintings. I am lucky enough to know two extraordinarily beautiful farms that serve as the inspiration for these Soil Paintings: Spring Hills Farm in Dalton\, PA and Woven Roots Farm in Tyringham\, MA. Both are working organic farms that place high importance on the health and beauty of soil. “ \n  \nThe Berkshire Art Center (BAC)\, 141 North Street\, will continue to offer Free Artmaking Drop-Ins on the First Friday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm\, year-round. For the month of October\, The Berkshire Art Center will also feature two window displays: Feathered Friends by Paula Churt (north window) and Turn the Tables by Deborah Carter (south window). \n  \nThe exhibit in the north window\, “Feathered Friends”\, represents a collective array of paper owls and backyard birds familiar to the Berkshires. Paula’s creative vision is inspired by nature and natural found objects. Each bird is uniquely designed and precisely cut using scissors and an exacto knife. “Feathered Friends” will be on view October 6 through October 31. \n  \nDeborah Carter is back in the south window of Berkshire Art Center with an installation created with upcycled vintage napkins and tablecloths. “Turn the Tables” by Deborah Carter will be on view October 6 through November 26. \n  \nOn Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, NUarts gallery + studios\, 311 North Street\, will open their Hall Gallery featuring the works of resident artists including Richard Britell\, Kathy Gideon\, Brent Ridge\, Joan Rooks\, Marney Schorr\, and Laura Thompson. \n  \nSally Tiska Rice will present “Autumn Reverie” at Krol Headquarters\, 139 North Street\, on October 6. Sally invites you to indulge your senses in the vibrant colors and intricate brushstrokes of abstract canvases and framed translucent watercolor works. There will be a reception with the artist on Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, during the First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nAs a versatile multi-media artist\, Sally Tiska Rice seamlessly employs a tapestry of techniques\, working in acrylic\, watercolors\, oil paints\, pastels\, and collages containing botanicals and mixed media elements. Her creative spirit draws inspiration from the idyllic surroundings of her rural hometown\, where she resides with her husband Mark and cherished pets. \n  \nThe Marketplace Cafe\, 53 North Street\, will host watercolor paintings by Jill Gustavis for the month of October. There will be a reception with the artist during the October 6th First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 7 pm. \n  \nJill Gustavis is a painter living in Hancock\, MA. A Berkshire native\, Jill is inspired by a wide range of local subjects\, from still lifes and florals to landscapes and animals. Working primarily in watercolor\, Jill uses layers of color and value to sculpt a sense of presence between the subject and viewer. \n  \nMarchetti Headquarters\, at 314 North Street\, will feature Mollie Kellogg’s Incognito Witches for the month of October. “Tis the season for witches!” Experience hidden magick revealed in Mollie Kellogg’s Incognito Witch paintings and drawings during the First Fridays Artswalk and all month long. Visitors can meet Mollie at a reception on Friday\, October 6 from 5 to 7 pm at Marchetti Headquarters. \n  \nAerofauna Studio presents The P.E.B.E. Project with the artistic stylings of Natalie Zoe White at The Unitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield\, 175 Wendell Avenue\, through October 23. There will be a reception with the artists on Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 7 pm\, as part of First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nThe P.E.B.E. Tiffany utilizes abstract pieces with bright colors. She is a lover of all things nature and is captivated by the sky and sunsets. She uses acrylic on canvas to make her art. \n  \nBMC will host a reception with the artist on Friday\, October 6 from 3 to 5 pm with snacks and soft drinks. \n  \nWitch Slapped\, 78 North Street\, will feature The Fantastical Artwork of Kit Curry on Friday\, October 6\, 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nKit Curry’s serenely apocalyptic artwork draws upon those primordial beliefs — animism\, witchcraft\, the occult —that modernity and so-called enlightenment have failed to entirely exorcise. She is well known for her support of the Capital Region music scene. Her passion for promoting up and coming musicians in the 518 community is contagious. Niki is excited to see how our collective efforts are sparking a revival across our local music scenes! \n  \nBree Nicola is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter from Pittsfield. She just graduated with a BFA from Rider University as a Musical Theatre major and is currently working on her first EP. \n  \nCrys Moore is a 20-year-old indie/RNB artist from Pittsfield. Crys attended The College of Saint Rose briefly\, majoring in music industry. They will be continuing their studies in music production at BCC in the spring of 2024. \n  \nThe duo is very excited to get to perform on the streets they both grew up in and can’t wait to have a blast with the community. \n  \nCreative Sorceress Mollie Kellogg will demonstrate her messy and glitter/star-embedded mixed media underpainting pouring process during the September 1st First Fridays Artswalk at Sotille Park\, 200 North Street. This free live painting demonstration will be from 5 to 8 pm\, rain or shine. Kellogg’s Incognito Witch Project celebrates hidden magick and encompasses fine art\, film\, music\, and dance. \n  \nDowntown Pittsfield\, Inc. will host a Free Kids’ Paint & Sip and Scavenger Hunt on Friday\, September 1in the outdoor seating area next to Hot Harry’s and in front of the Marketplace Cafe (37 & 53 North Street). Sally invites you to indulge your senses in the vibrant colors and intricate brushstrokes of abstract canvases and framed translucent watercolor works. Her concerts are warm\, affirming experiences she shares with the audience. Let her take you on a journey of musical exploration through the Delta and Piedmont regions of the South. Song selections may include Robert Johnson\, Blind Willie Johnson\, and Robin’s own original blues and fingerstyle ballads. \n  \nSinger-Songwriter Bernice Lewis has been a touring artist for almost four decades\, performing at innumerable festivals\, concert halls\, coffeehouses\, colleges\, and house concerts. She is The Artist Associate in Songwriting at Williams College (Williamstown\, MA) and founding faculty at Schreiner University’s Songkeeper Program (Kerrville\, TX). She has released seven CDs of her original music and is currently signed to Houston’s Berkalin Records. \n  \nOn Friday\, August 4 at FRAMEWORK\, 437 North Street\, Diane Firtell will be hosting a free live painting demonstration from 5 to 8 pm where she will illustrate how she transfers one of her photographs onto a canvas and transforms it into a realistic oil painting. \n  \nPittsfield artist Diane Firtell uses her camera\, now mostly her iPhone\, to capture the ever-changing beauty of the Berkshires. During this event\, she will be working on Ranunculus Bouquet\, a work in progress. \n  \nDowntown Pittsfield\, Inc. and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will host a Free Kids’ Paint & Sip on Friday\, August 4\, 5 to 7 pm\, in the auditorium at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church\, 67 East Street\, as part of the First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nThis free animal-themed Paint & Sip is best suited for ages 5 to 12\, although younger and older children are welcome. SUMMARY:St. Joseph’s Polish Picnic
DESCRIPTION:After a hiatus of three years due to the pandemic\, the Polish Picnic is returning to the grounds of St. Joseph’s Church at 414 North Street on Sunday\, July 16 from 12 to 5 pm. This 60-plus year tradition is one of the last ethnic festivals in Berkshire County. \nA highlight of the Polish Picnic is the homemade Polish food for sale made by the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church\, including pierogies\, kapusta\, golumbki\, and kielbasa. The Eddie Forman Orchestra will entertain the crowd beginning at 1 pm. Bring a lawn chair to relax and enjoy the music or get up and dance to the polka. There will be raffles\, games of chance\, and a KiddyLand. There will also be American food and adult beverages for sale. \nThere is a one-dollar entry fee to the Picnic which includes chances to win door prizes. The Polish Picnic is open to the public and all ages are welcome.

R.O.P.E. is designed to help participants discover their inner voice and support all components of personal development. She manipulates the color\, shape\, and texture of her materials in a way that compels us to question our assumptions of beauty and worth\, and ultimately reconsider our habits and attitudes about waste and consumerism. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renee Avenue\, will present CATA’s I Am a Part of Art through August 23\, 2023. Community Access to the Arts’ Annual Art Show I Am a Part of Art features more than 150 paintings and drawings by artists with disabilities – the culmination of hundreds of CATA visual arts workshops serving teens\, adults\, and elders with disabilities. \n  \nThe Guild of Berkshire Artists is partnering with Hot Plate Brewing Co. to showcase small to medium-sized works from member artists during the 2023 First Fridays Artswalks. In July\, Hot Plate Brewing Co.\, 1 School Street\, will present works by artist Emily Bunnell. Emily paints elements and scenes found in nature with a designer’s eye. Emily’s work will remain on display through the end of July. Musician Dave Brown will perform a solo set from 7 to 10 pm on Friday\, July 7 in celebration of this new collaboration. \n  \nThe Beacon Cinema Lobby\, at 57 North Street\, will feature Strike a Memory: Imagery & Illustration in Berkshire Matchbooks\, an art exhibit of vintage Berkshire matchbooks dating from the 1950s-1980s from July 1 through July 31. The exhibit is curated by local artist Sara Paul of Shire Prints and features vintage matchbooks with famous landmarks in Lenox\, Pittsfield\, Great Barrington\, and other Berkshire towns. The matchbooks have been scanned at a high resolution and printed many times greater than their size so that viewers can get an up-close look at matchbook art in its full color\, detail\, and splendor. Visitors may stop by and meet Sara during the First Friday Artswalk on July 7 from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nReDefine Community Center\, 5 Melville Street\, will feature 4 local artists for one night only during the July 7 First Fridays Artswalk. DESCRIPTION:Admission is a $20 per person donation to the Pittsfield Parade at the door \nSince 1946\, the Greater Kensington String Band has been a totally volunteer organization that participates in the world famous Mummers Parade on New Year’s Day in Philadelphia\, PA. At this concert on July 3\, they will be playing highlights from their foot-tapping music and will showcase their good-humored fun. (Join us at the Pittsfield 4th of July Parade to see them in their famous\, colorfully costumed attire.) \nWhoaPhat Brass Band specializes in a unique instrumentation – which can range from seven to twenty musicians\, quality of musicianship\, and dynamic music arrangements. Their brass band repertoire spans across decades of musical genres including second line\, jazz\, funk\, disco\, and rock. WhoaPhat Brass Band has won top honors for musical performances in the Philadelphia Mummers and Saint Patrick’s Day Parades.

DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield partners will host the first of three planned Block Parties on Saturday\, June 24\, featuring a mix of live music from dynamic Berkshire-based bands\, performances from Pittsfield’s two premiere theatre companies\, beer gardens\, food vendors\, and more! \nThe first Block Party will be on School Street\, right outside of Hot Plate Brewing Co. School Street will be closed from noon through 8 pm\, and visitors will be able to attend free performances by Barrington Stage Company\, Berkshire Theatre Group\, and musicians Glori Wilder and Chantell McFarland. Local food vendors will include Cravin’s Ice Cream and Espetinho Carioca\, and Hot Plate will be overseeing the beer garden. Balloon Ben will be offering free balloon twisters for children from 2 to 4 pm. \n  \nPerformance Schedule: \n\n3:00-3:45pm – Celebration of Black Voices presented by Barrington Stage Company (Spoken word\, poetry\, and musical performances from local artists)\n4:00-4:30pm – The cast from Berkshire Theatre Group’s upcoming production of Million Dollar Quartet at the Colonial Theatre perform select songs from the show\n4:45-6:15pm – Chantell & Friends (Chantell McFarland is well known around the Berkshires for her soulful voice\, wide range\, and sultry tones.
