Both events have been moved to the McKay Street Parking Garage due to Saturday’s rainy forecast. \n\nDowntown Pittsfield… It’s Alive! Block Party: Saturday\, October 21\, 1 to 5 pm\, inside the McKay Street Parking Garage \n\nTo park for the day\, enter the Parking Garage via the Depot Street entrance for access to the upper parking levels. The event will be on the McKay Street level. \n\nThe It’s Alive! Block Party will feature a Marketplace with 20+ Vendors (see vendor list below)\, a Beer Garden with Wandering Star Craft Brewery\, and food from BB’s Hot Spot. Musician Evan Lanoue will play from 1 to 2:30 pm\, and the band Vaguely Pagan will play from 3:30 to 5 pm. Witch Slapped\, 78 North Street\, will be open with an afternoon of spooky\, free family fun. There will be a Spooky Storytime at noon with Poppy DaBubbly and spooky ornament making from 12 to 4 pm. \n  \n  \nThe Let It Shine! Public Art Partnership is a group of Pittsfield-based community members who have formed to organize public art and revitalization on North Street\, empowered by organizing efforts through MassDevelopment’s TDI. MassDevelopment’s Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) is a program for Gateway Cities designed to accelerate economic growth within focused districts. \n  \nThe Let It Shine! Public Art Project is sponsored by MassDevelopment’s TDI Creative Catalyst Grant program\, Teton Management\, Mill Town Foundation\, and Carr Hardware. It is presented in partnership with MassDevelopment’s TDI\, Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc.\, Downtown Pittsfield Cultural Association\, Artscape\, City of Pittsfield’s Office of Cultural Development\, Huck Elling\, Jesse Tobin McCauley\, Common Wealth Murals\, Westside Legends\, Allegrone Companies\, The Cooper Center\, and Paul Aronofsky. \n  \nMassDevelopment’s TDI Creative Catalyst Grant program is made possible by the Barr Foundation\, which since 2019 has awarded $4.4 million to MassDevelopment to create and administer arts-based programming that directly supports the expansion of cultural and creative industries in Gateway Cities. Born and raised in Troy\, NY – she lived in San Francisco and New York City in her 20’s\, then returned to The Capital Region to be closer to family. She currently works for www.radioradiox.com as a DJ and music journalist\, in addition to running her arts and entertainment business\, Kaos Industries. \n  \nNiki’s love of music is boundless! She is well known for her support of the Capital Region music scene. Her 518 Homegrown original music open mic at 344 2nd Street in Troy\, NY is a popular destination for songwriters on the first Sundays of each month. Her passion for promoting up and coming musicians in the 518 community is contagious. Niki is excited to see how our collective efforts are sparking a revival across our local music scenes! \n  \nBree Nicola is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter from Pittsfield. She just graduated with a BFA from Rider University as a Musical Theatre major and is currently working on her first EP. \n  \nCrys Moore is a 20-year-old indie/RNB artist from Pittsfield. Crys attended The College of Saint Rose briefly\, majoring in music industry. They will be continuing their studies in music production at BCC in the spring of 2024. \n  \nThe duo is very excited to get to perform on the streets they both grew up in and can’t wait to have a blast with the community. \n  \nCreative Sorceress Mollie Kellogg will demonstrate her messy and glitter/star-embedded mixed media underpainting pouring process during the September 1st First Fridays Artswalk at Sotille Park\, 200 North Street. This free live painting demonstration will be from 5 to 8 pm\, rain or shine. Kellogg’s Incognito Witch Project celebrates hidden magick and encompasses fine art\, film\, music\, and dance. \n  \nDowntown Pittsfield\, Inc. will host a Free Kids’ Paint & Sip and Scavenger Hunt on Friday\, September 1in the outdoor seating area next to Hot Harry’s and in front of the Marketplace Cafe (37 & 53 North Street). The Paint & Sip is from 5 to 7 pm\, and the Scavenger Hunt is from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nThis free Back-to-School-themed Paint & Sip is best suited for ages 5 to 12\, although younger and older children are welcome. All materials\, instruction\, snacks\, and juice will be provided. Children are welcome to drop in anytime over the course of the event\, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. \n  \nThe Free Kids’ Scavenger Hunt for art will be held from 5 to 8 pm on September 1 during the First Fridays Artswalk. He is the founder of Young Champ Foundation which helps the community with back-to-school supplies and Christmas gifts as well as providing mentoring for our youth. There’s nothing DJ Champ hasn’t touched in Berkshire County. Kelly Potter\, Chesterwood Artist-in-Residence\, is a painter and a ceramic sculptor based in the Berkshires. Her visual art is based on preliminary studies of plant and animal activity within semi-natural locations in the Berkshires and the Pioneer Valley. Using oil painting and wall mounted ceramic relief sculpture\, she investigates a dynamic between the tamed and the untamed. \n  \nNoah Beauregard\, Red Lion Inn Artist-in-Residence\, is a painter working out of Berkshire County. Drawn to painting and design as a child\, Beauregard’s art focuses on abstracting common images through form and color. Beauregard pushes recognizable scenes into a bright bizarre world of saturated color and mythic design. The human form and unworldly plants are common motifs in his work. \n  \nSally Tiska Rice will present “Autumn Reverie” at Krol Headquarters\, 139 North Street\, August 31 through October 2. Sally invites you to indulge your senses in the vibrant colors and intricate brushstrokes of abstract canvases and framed translucent watercolor works. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday\, September 1\, 5 to 8 pm\, during the First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nAs a versatile multi-media artist\, Sally Tiska Rice seamlessly employs a tapestry of techniques\, working in acrylic\, watercolors\, oil paints\, pastels\, and collages containing botanicals and mixed media elements. Her New Hat Series presents large-scale\, feminine forms that are mysterious\, bold\, dramatic\, captivating\, and complex. The many elegant\, amorphic\, and intricate shapes which flow throughout keep the eyes moving. \n  \nMarchetti Headquarters\, at 314 North Street\, will feature Strike a Memory: Imagery & Illustration in Berkshire Matchbooks\, an art exhibit of vintage Berkshire matchbooks dating from the 1950s-1980s for the month of September. \n  \nThe exhibit is curated by local artist Sara Paul of Shire Prints and features vintage matchbooks with famous landmarks in Lenox\, Pittsfield\, Great Barrington\, and other Berkshire towns. Her concerts are warm\, affirming experiences she shares with the audience. Let her take you on a journey of musical exploration through the Delta and Piedmont regions of the South. Song selections may include Robert Johnson\, Blind Willie Johnson\, and Robin’s own original blues and fingerstyle ballads. \n  \nSinger-Songwriter Bernice Lewis has been a touring artist for almost four decades\, performing at innumerable festivals\, concert halls\, coffeehouses\, colleges\, and house concerts. She has released seven CDs of her original music and is currently signed to Houston’s Berkalin Records. \n  \nOn Friday\, August 4 at FRAMEWORK\, 437 North Street\, Diane Firtell will be hosting a free live painting demonstration from 5 to 8 pm where she will illustrate how she transfers one of her photographs onto a canvas and transforms it into a realistic oil painting. \n  \nPittsfield artist Diane Firtell uses her camera\, now mostly her iPhone\, to capture the ever-changing beauty of the Berkshires. Originating in Galveston\, Texas\, it has been celebrated annually on June 19th in various parts of the United States since 1865.The June 19th event is the new reimaging of the annual Gather In festival. It will be a celebration of freedom and a day filled with music\, dance\, spoken word\, activities for the kids\, basketball clinics\, food\, and vendors. WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE is a sampling of the work Taylor created during the pandemic. Many of the paintings speak of containment\, some visually looking outward\, some inward. Some return to a simpler time that we once knew hoping to find comfort in our own existence. There will be a reception with the artist on Friday\, November 5\, 5 to 8 pm\, as part of First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nThe Brothership Building Window at 141 North Street\, curated by IS183 Art School of the Berkshires\, will feature “Little Kids\, Big Issues” by Stephanie VanBramer\, November 5-28. \n  \nRegularly taking inspiration from personal experiences\, conversations\, thoughts about everyday life\, and the lessons she has learned along the way\, VanBramer creates artwork that sparks reality checks and speaks out\, making it known that it has something to say. Schildkraut is an award-winning artist and educator who resides in Southern Vermont\, working in mixed media: paper mache\, watercolor paint\, and polymer clay. \n  \nThere will be an opening reception as part of First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 6:30 pm on November 5. The performances will be presented in partnership with First Fridays Artswalk which will occur from 5-8 pm on October 1. \nAt Sotille Park\, 200 North Street\, enjoy singer/songwriter Jaane Doe’s blend of country-tinged Americana\, folk\, and pop music\, the product of many magical encounters along her musical journey. \nAt Persip Park\, 175 North Street\, you can enjoy Garrin Benfield’s freestyle acoustic rock. His music is a blend of moody\, guitar driven rock and polyrhythmic groove\, all run through the filter of a very serious singer/songwriter. Playing eclectic sets at hundreds of shows every year\, Benfield has become an underground favorite at festivals\, rock clubs\, coffeehouses\, and house concerts. \nThe Marketplace Cafe’s parklet at 53 North Street will feature The Midnight Anthem: a musical trio made up of Catherine\, Sophia and Grace\, cousins by birth\, but sisters at heart. The group has an uncanny knack for creating music that is both fun to listen to and touches the soul\, and their music is an entertaining blend of original songs and popular tunes with a country flair. \nIndoors Out! Music on North is presented by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and funding has been provided by the Commonwealth Places Program created by MassDevelopment. \nThe event is presented in partnership with Berkshire Busk and First Fridays Artswalk.
