DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and First Fridays Artswalk are pleased to announce the August “Art in the Park” artist at First Fridays at Five is Ma’leek Adams-Powell. \nMa’leek will be popped up in Palace Park (near 122 North Street)\, inviting the community to watch him create live and discussing his process with all who are interested. \nMa’leek Adams-Powell is a multidisciplinary artist from Pittsfield\, Massachusetts\, working between the Berkshires and NYC. His work blends graffiti\, mixed media\, and 3D Elements; often using old spray paint cans\, large canvases\, and overlooked material to explore memory\, decay\, and survival. Rooted in hip-hop and childhood nostalgia\, Ma’leek paints the beauty in what’s broken or overlooked. His mission is simple: to be seen amongst the rubble when everything else fades. “Art is my record. My resistance. A reminder that I was here.” \nIn the case of inclement weather\, “Art in the Park” with Ma’leek Adams-Powell will be inside the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts at 28 Renee Avenue. \n“Art in the Park” is supported by the Feigenbaum Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:The First Fridays Artswalk in downtown Pittsfield continues its 5-month season (May through September) on Friday\, August 1 from 5 to 8 pm as part of the City of Pittsfield’s First Fridays at Five. \n  \nParticipating venues on Friday\, August 1 include Berkshire Art Center\, Clock Tower Artists\, Creahub Makerspace by Latinas413\, Framework by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc.\, Hotel on North\, Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, Living in Recovery\, Marketplace Cafe\, Ralph Froio Senior Center\, Roots and Dreams and Mustard Seeds\, Soda Chef\, and TKG Real Estate. \n  \nDownload the Downtown Pittsfield App in the App Store or on Google Play to follow a virtual walking tour of art on your cell phone. \n  \nThe Berkshire Art Center (BAC)\, 141 North Street\, will host a special First Fridays Artswalk activity on Friday\, August 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. \n  \nBerkshire Art Center is thrilled to be part of “The Berkshires Satellite Reef” — a local contribution to the world-renowned “Crochet Coral Reef Project” by artists Christine and Margaret Wertheim and the Institute for Figuring. \n  \nThis global\, community-powered art initiative invites people of all ages and skill levels to crochet pieces that will become part of a stunning\, life-sized coral reef installation to be exhibited at Williams College’s ’62 Center for Theatre & Dance in the Spring of 2026. \n  \nStop by during the First Friday Artswalk to learn more\, get inspired\, and maybe even try your hand at crocheting a coral of your own! \n\nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue\, will feature Community Access to the Arts’s “I Am a Part of Art” on Friday\, August 1 from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nThis exhibit is CATA’s biggest art show of the year – celebrating the talents of artists with disabilities. “I Am a Part of Art” features vibrant paintings\, drawings\, sculptures\, photographs\, and even comic illustration and stop-motion animation. \n  \nCATA’s 2025 Annual Art Show features nearly 300 pieces by teens\, adults\, and elders with disabilities from across the community. \n  \nYou can enjoy the exhibit for free at the Clark Art Institute (starting July 4) and the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts (starting July 9). Artwork is available for sale and artists earn a commission on each work sold. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts is open Wednesday through Friday\, 11 am to 3 pm\, and by appointment. The show will be on view through August 22. \n  \nThe Creahub Makerspace by Latinas413 will host two featured exhibitions at 139 North Street: “Blooming Together\, Strengthening Our Roots” by Shelsy Rodriguez and “Between Generations” by Luiza Folegatti. \n  \n“Blooming Together\, Strengthening Our Roots” is a mural by Shelsy Rodriguez on permanent display at the CreaHub MakerSpace\, which celebrates the strength and beauty of Latina women\, honoring their diverse roots and experiences. Inspired by the flora of Latin America\, this collective work uplifts immigrant identity through visual and written storytelling in both English and Spanish. It is accompanied by a community-written narrative exploring migration\, resilience\, and sisterhood. \n  \n“Between Generations” is a photography and interview-based installation by Luiza Folegatti on view now through August 6. \n  \n“Between Generations” explores motherhood and migration through photography\, interviews\, and workshops with Latina mothers and daughters in the Berkshires. The project documents their stories\, resilience\, and shared dreams while examining the generational ties that shape identity and community. \n  \nLiving in Recovery\, 75 North Street\, will feature artworks by Ms. Michael Kennedy on Friday\, August 1\, from 5 to 8 pm\, at a reception with the artist. \n  \nMichael Kennedy is an actor\, playwright\, director\, and producer\, and the founder and Artistic Director of Creative Action Unlimited\, a theater/film production company dedicated to the collaborative creation of works about social issues. She taught acting at the NYS Theatre Institute Theater Arts School\, where she created multiple original productions with high school students. She has directed a number of productions at CAU\, has directed multiple times at Theater Voices\, and served as the lead teaching artist for WAM’s 2024 Elder Ensemble program\, where she will return to teach and direct the Elder Ensemble in 2025. Michael has also worked as a consultant in the formation and development of the Playback Theater of the Berkshires. \n  \nAlthough Michael does not identify as a visual artist\, for a period of about 6 months\, 20 years ago\, she was led to create a series of charcoal drawings\, depicting the evolving conflict occurring in an alternate world. Each drawing in this series was created while listening to “Kronos Quartet Performs Philip Glass” and was created only with grayscale charcoal\, paper\, and finger drawing. \n  \nThe Marketplace Cafe\, 53 North Street\, will feature Mary Davidson’s stamped paintings in her “Abstract Series” for the month of August. Mary Davidson is an artist living in the Berkshires. Her passion for art runs deep. Mary’s abstract paintings in this exhibit are a part of a series of 40 paintings. There will be an Opening Reception with the artist during the August 1 First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 7 pm. \n  \nThe Clock Tower Artists at 75 South Church Street will host an open studios event on Friday\, August 1\, 5 to 8 pm. Clock Tower Artists (CTA) is the largest and most diverse contemporary\, working artists’ group in Berkshire County. Now numbering two dozen working creatives\, the Clock Tower Artists Open Studios will feature original paintings\, prints\, photographs\, and sculptures. Artist Exhibition” featuring 4 local artists at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. On August 1 from 5 to 8 pm\, Ma’leek Adams-Powell will be popped up in Palace Park (near 122 North Street)\, inviting the community to watch him create live and discussing his process with all who are interested. \n  \nMa’leek Adams-Powell is a multidisciplinary artist from Pittsfield\, MA\, working between the Berkshires and NYC. His work blends graffiti\, mixed media\, and 3D Elements; often using old spray paint cans\, large canvases\, and overlooked material to explore memory\, decay\, and survival. Rooted in hip-hop and childhood nostalgia\, Ma’leek paints the beauty in what’s broken or overlooked. His mission is simple: to be seen amongst the rubble when everything else fades. “Art is my record. My resistance. A reminder that I was here.” \n  \nIn the case of inclement weather\, “Art in the Park” with Ma’leek Adams-Powell will be inside the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts at 28 Renee Avenue. \n  \nDJ Champ will be the featured First Fridays at Five DJ for August and will be stationed on North Street closer to Park Square. \n  \nNew Jersey born\, DJ Champ has been lighting up the dance floor since 2008. Doing everything from celebrity events to the smallest of venues\, there’s nothing DJ Champ hasn’t touched when it comes to entertainment. One thing you’ll be sure of is that when he is around the vibe will be great. He has been featured on MTV\, VH1\, Sirius XM\, and many more major distribution avenues and also featured locally on Star 101.7 FM. Specializing in weddings\, nightclubs\, concerts\, corporate events\, birthdays and more\, there’s nothing he can’t handle. \n  \nThe Makers Market at First Fridays at Five will be on North Street and will feature over a dozen local vendors selling handmade products such as crafts\, clothing and accessories\, candles\, art\, custom gift items\, self-care items\, and packaged foods and sweets. Since 2013\, she has been teaching Zumba® and holds multiple certifications\, including Aqua Zumba\, Zumba Sentao\, Zumba Toning\, Zumba Step\, Zumba Gold\, and Zumba Jr. & Kids. \nSandra loves what she does and finds great joy in helping her students reach their goals while having fun along the way. Clock Tower Artists (CTA) is the largest and most diverse contemporary\, working artists’ group in Berkshire County. Now numbering two dozen working creatives\, the Clock Tower Artists Open Studios will feature original paintings\, prints\, photographs\, and sculptures. The original artwork will be on view as part of this exhibition. \n  \n“I have always been motivated to make art which inspires human connections\,” says Huck. “For more than twelve years I have been fortunate to be working as a professional artist\, in a variety of mediums\, methods and scales\, and at the heart of everything I do is the desire to inspire curiosity\, connection\, and joy.” \n  \n“Public Art has the specific beauty of belonging to everyone\, it is art without barriers. This beautifully restored boutique hotel blends 19th-century architecture with sleek\, contemporary design—and is the perfect backdrop for Sally’s richly layered light-filled artwork. \n  \nMeet the artist on Saturday\, July 12 from 1 to 4 pm at an Opening Reception during the Special Saturday Artswalk. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Sally in person\, explore her creative process\, and hear the inspiring stories behind her work. Her paintings draw from deep wells of personal experience\, including her journey as a spinal injury survivor—and now\, as she bravely faces breast cancer with strength and creativity. Her art is not just visual—it’s emotional\, healing\, and vibrantly alive. \n  \nSally\, a lifelong Berkshire resident\, has worked in many mediums\, including watercolor\, acrylic\, oils\, pastels\, and mixed media. Her style blends atmosphere\, memory\, and light\, creating emotionally resonant works that have been commissioned and collected internationally. With a 25-year career at Crane & Co. hand bordering luxury stationery for names like Cartier\, Tiffany & Co.\, and Aretha Franklin\, her artistic pedigree is matched only by her passion and perseverance. \n  \nRoots and Dreams and Mustard Seeds\, 119 Fenn Street\, will present eco-friendly products by Aisha B. and the Cosmic CoArt Cooperative’s Cosmic Butterfly Procession project during a reception on Saturday\, July 12\, 1 to 4 pm\, during the Special Saturday Artswalk. \n  \nArtist and artisan Aisha B. will be showcasing her natural handcrafted eco-friendly products which include reusable concrete candles\, zero-waste soaps\, clay jewelry\, canvas art\, and more alongside the Cosmic CoArt Cooperative’s Cosmic Butterfly Procession project. \n  \nThe Cosmic CoArt Cooperative is a multi-talented artist cooperative that strives to thread together common strengths through the living arts. They sincerely feel creating a culture of a “beloved community” while crossing borders of race\, class\, culture\, language\, ability\, and creed can be done hand in hand through the forces of creativity and the human phenomenon of art. \n  \nArtists include Annalisa Jacobsen\, Peppa\, Aisha B.\, Drake\, Jean Minuchin\, Macarena\, Beth Fairservis\, Matt Brinton\, Nicole Fecteau and Olly. \n  \n  \nNow through July 12\, Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG) is proud to partner with the Guild of Berkshire Artists in displaying their art show\, “Creative Diversity\,” in The Colonial Theatre lobby at 111 South Street. The exhibit consists of ten works of art selected from Guild of Berkshire Artist applicants by a jury\, and each piece is available for purchase and viewing Tuesdays-Saturdays from 12 to 5 pm. BTG will host a Closing Reception on Saturday\, July 12\, 1 to 4 pm during the Artswalk. \n  \nWorks range from photographic realism to impressionistic landscapes to gestural abstract expressionism and you are left to use your creative diversity to make your own interpretation. \n  \nThe Marketplace Cafe\, 53 North Street\, will feature the surreal landscape paintings of Sean McCusker July 2-30. \n  \nSean McCusker is an artist\, curator\, and all-around art lover devoting his work and free time to the arts. His surreal landscapes have been displayed at the Berkshire Museum\, Gallery 14\, and Rehoboth Art League. Sean runs an art installation business and is Exhibitions Curator at the Becket Arts Center. Berkshire Art Association recently voted him as VP of Exhibitions where he is in charge of development\, expansion\, and installation of their art exhibitions. \n  \nContrasted by stillness\, drama unfolds as cascading shadows fall heavily on the colorful landscape. Figures find themselves bathed in the sun as they dot the landscape and contemplate their surroundings. DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. has announced a new summer dance series titled “Rhythmscape” on Dunham Mall\, select Sunday afternoons from 6 to 8 pm\, June 1 – August 31. Dunham Mall can be located by entering 100 North Street on your GPS. \nEach session will highlight a different rhythm and instructor from our local community\, reflecting the many identities that make Pittsfield home. Rhythmscape is free and open to all and encourages everyone to experience the joy of movement and the beauty of cultural exchange. No experience is necessary to participate. \nBerkshire Sole Society is a Berkshire-based soul line dancing crew bringing together rhythm\, movement\, and community one step at a time. Founded by Erica Shrader and powered by Women of the Westside+\, their meetups are packed with smooth steps\, feel-good music\, and unapologetic joy. (437 North Street). \nFaces of Pittsfield shines a light on the people who live and work in Pittsfield by cultivating a diverse and inclusive sense of community through photographs and social media. \nThe mission of Faces of Pittsfield is to reshape the narrative of Pittsfield by celebrating the contributions of all who make this city vibrant\, welcoming\, and full of life. Faces of Pittsfield honors local people and businesses\, promoting inclusivity and diversity by amplifying the stories of people who live and work in Pittsfield. \nThere will be an opening reception with the photographer during the June 6 First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm. \nThe exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday\, 10 am to 2 pm\, June 6 through June 26\, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. offices at 431 North Street.
