Beyond her connection to Hilma\, Ellie draws inspiration for her art from her daily life which includes caring for her six-year-old daughter\, supporting her students’ artistic pursuits\, walking in the Berkshire woods\, and practicing meditation. \n  \nThe Unitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield\, 175 Wendell Avenue\, will present “Artswalk at the UU. A year in review.” for the month of December. There will be a reception with the artists on Friday\, December 2\, 5 to 8 pm\, as part of First Fridays Artswalk. \n  \nThis show will feature a varied group of artists that have participated in the Artswalk over the last year at the Unitarian Universalist Church. If you enjoyed visiting the many gifted artists over the last year\, or missed a show\, now is your chance to see the artist’s most favorite piece and connect with them about their work. \n  \nNew to Artswalk\, Witch Slapped\, 78 North Street\, will present artworks by Kit Curry for the month of December. In Kit’s work\, ruins\, ancient and modern\, frequently serve as background for folkloric characters\, who seem to have returned to the world after some calamity. The images are sometimes macabre\, but also serene. This is Kit’s vision of the future; it affirms something that we’ve all had to learn in recent years: the end of the world can\, to a certain extent\, be lived with. \n  \nOn Friday\, December 2\, Witch Slapped will stay open until 8 pm with The Emerald Phoenix popped up and a free Kids’ event from 5 to 8 pm where they can make their own ornament. At 6:30 pm\, there will be a Drag Storytime as Island Fawn reads a children’s holiday story! \n  \nSoma’s Aromas\, 81 East Street\, will feature artist Anita Plouffe who will be painting live on Friday\, December 2\, from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nThe Beacon Cinema\, 57 North Street\, will feature “The Instagram Image Out Of Context” curated by Richard Britell through December 20. For this exhibit\, 20 images were selected from Instagram feeds\, framed\, and hung on the wall as an artistic statement. SUMMARY:Indoors Out! Music on North
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. will present Indoors Out! Music on North on Friday\, October 1\, 5-7 pm\, at Sotille Park\, Persip Park\, and the parklet at the Marketplace Cafe. The three downtown locations will feature free outdoor performances by local performers who have also played with Berkshire Busk. The performances will be presented in partnership with First Fridays Artswalk which will occur from 5-8 pm on October 1. \nAt Sotille Park\, 200 North Street\, enjoy singer/songwriter Jaane Doe’s blend of country-tinged Americana\, folk\, and pop music\, the product of many magical encounters along her musical journey. \nAt Persip Park\, 175 North Street\, you can enjoy Garrin Benfield’s freestyle acoustic rock. His music is a blend of moody\, guitar driven rock and polyrhythmic groove\, all run through the filter of a very serious singer/songwriter. The group has an uncanny knack for creating music that is both fun to listen to and touches the soul\, and their music is an entertaining blend of original songs and popular tunes with a country flair. \nIndoors Out! Music on North is presented by Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and funding has been provided by the Commonwealth Places Program created by MassDevelopment. \nThe event is presented in partnership with Berkshire Busk and First Fridays Artswalk. SUMMARY:September First Fridays Artswalk
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy brand new indoor art shows\, murals\, and Artscape’s Pittsfield Paintboxes during the First Fridays Artswalk on Friday\, September 3\, 5 to 8 pm\, and all month long. You can view all locations by clicking here\, and new this year\, you can download the PocketSights app to follow a virtual walking tour on your cell phone. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue\, will present THE CHASE / GRAUBARD SHOW\, September 3-25\, featuring works by married couple\, Karen Chase and Paul Graubard. \n  \nKaren Chase paints abstract paintings. Paul Graubard paints narrative\, visionary works. Their work could not be more different. This show highlights a few of their collaborations\, as well as their individual paintings. When they make collaborations\, each is free to obliterate or change what the other has done. Chase\, primarily a writer and poet\, has been painting since she was a little girl. Painting is a basic activity for her\, like cooking or washing. Graubard began to paint when he was in his sixties\, giving up his practice as a psychologist.  A number of museums collect his work. \n  \nOne of their collaborations\, Hongera Obama\, Tanzanian Congratulations\, will be silently auctioned off. The proceeds will be donated to the restoration of the Clinton AME Zion Church in Great Barrington. The silent auction is available in person at the Lichtenstein or you may contact slemme@cityofpittsfield.org for information on how to bid on the item. \n  \nThere will be an opening reception on Friday\, September 3\, 5 to 7 pm\, during First Fridays Artswalk (gallery will stay open until 8 pm). Gallery hours are Wednesday-Friday\, 11 am to 3 pm or by appointment. There will be an opening reception open to the public on Friday\, November 6 from 5 to 8 pm. \n  \nThe Lichtenstein Center for the Arts\, 28 Renne Avenue\, will feature NEXT\, the Berkshire Art Association’s Juried Biennial Show\, through November 20. NEXT features 37 works from 30 artists who are from New England and New York. These artists were asked to broaden and explore the questions: Where do we go next? What do we do next? What comes next?\, and respond with unique artistic expression. The exhibit is open to the public with no appointment necessary during the First Fridays Artswalk on November 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, and persons admitted will be limited to 10 at a time. To view NEXT at an alternate time\, please call 413-499-9348 to make an appointment. \n  \nThe Brothership Building Window\, 141 North Street\, curated by IS183 Art School of the Berkshires will feature Collage Trees by Mrs. Callahan’s 5th Grade Egremont Elementary Class for the month of November. \n  \nBRAINworks educator Judy Callahan (grade 5\, Pittsfield)\, in partnership with IS183 Art School of the Berkshires\, brought science and social-emotional learning into her virtual 5th grade classroom this month through the power of collage! Over the last two weeks in four virtual classes with IS183\, students have learned about collage\, trees\, and frottage: a colorful texture-rubbing visual art technique. Judy and IS183 educators Lucie and Brielle designed the lesson to incorporate both science and SEL standards. Students examined the natural characteristics of a tree (for example\, its bark and how it protects the tree) and drew connections between the purpose of a tree’s bark and what sort of things make the students feel protected in their own lives. Students have really enjoyed the lessons and have produced beautiful texture rubbings and tree collages made of art materials and recycled household items. The final artworks the students make will be assembled into larger tree collages and displayed in the front window of the Brothership Building beginning November 6. \n  \nAlso beginning November 6\, and continuing all month long\, NUarts Studios and Gallery will display the artwork of 6 artists in the storefront windows along Union Street just across the street from Barrington Stage Company’s Mainstage. Displayed will be a new series of paintings\, prints\, and designer fashions. Participating artists include Ilene Richards\, Karen S Jacobs\, Caroline Kelley\, Linda Petrocine\, Sally Tiska Rice\, and Marney Schorr. Each artist works in a variety of genres and media including acrylic and oil paint\, fabric on mannequins\, pastel\, encaustic painting\, and mixed media. The work will be on display through November. \n  \nHotel on North\, 297 North Street\, will feature Horizon by Andrew DeVries through November 30. There will be a reception with the artist\, open to the public\, on Friday\, November 6\, 5 to 8 pm\, as part of First Fridays Artswalk. \nThis exhibit shows the wide scope of the artist’s oeuvre. In the bronze sculptures you will view examples that range from his more well-known dance pieces to works of abstract symbolism. The paintings are pastels done in his studio using live models\, or creations that arise from his sketches drawn in dance studios such as The School at Jacob’s Pillow\, Julliard\, Alvin Ailey and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. You will also find an ink and watercolor series that illustrates Andrew’s continued interest in bold color and outline. \n  \nThe November Artswalk will also highlight new murals downtown including: The Sun Will Rise by Jesse Tobin McCauley\, Jay Tobin and Stephanie Quetti at 443 North Street and Gaia on Melville Street created by Mike Carty. Also highlighted will be Artscape’s 3 Outdoor Sculptures throughout downtown which have been extended through April of next year: Paul Angiolillo’s “Flame of Hope”\, Joe Gitterman’s “Couple 3”\, and Joe Chirchirillo’s “Joshua Tree #2”. \n  \nAll art exhibits are on display in participating venues throughout the month.
