They’ll be a beer garden\, food vendors\, and awesome performers! \nCold Chocolate is a genre-bending Americana band that fuses folk\, funk\, and bluegrass to create a unique sound all their own. Led by Ethan Robbins (vocals/guitar/mandolin) and Ariel Bernstein (vocals/percussion/banjo)\, the Boston-based duo released their fifth full-length album in the fall of 2023. \nPunctuated by tight harmonies and skillful musicianship\, Cold Chocolate has quickly gained recognition for their original music and high-energy shows. The band has shared bills with Leftover Salmon\, David Grisman\, and Angelique Kidjo\, and regularly performs at venues and music festivals across the country. Jason Verlinde of The Fretboard Journal\, who covered the band’s FreshGrass Festival set\, noted “there were plenty of magical moments…I will never forget [watching] Cold Chocolate perform.” Kathy Sands-Boehmer of No Depression raved\, “[Ethan] feels the music in his heart and soul and it shows when he plays. Ethan becomes the music on stage. There’s an almost mystical connection between his guitar and the notes that flow out of it.”

They’ll be a beer garden\, food vendors\, and awesome performers! \nWe’re kicking off the inaugural season of The Pitt with singer-songwriter Christa Joy and her backing band\, The Honeybees. \nChrista Joy is the band leader of the Western Mass based\, “Christa Joy and the Honeybees.” Americana with a classic country flair\, the group includes Lisa Marie Ellingsen (lead guitar)\, Tim Bowles (pedal steel)\, Jason Smith (drums)\, and Tom LeBeau (bass). The songwriter’s fourth full length collection was released in August 2024 at CitySpace in Easthampton\, MA. The self-titled project\, Christa Joy and the Honeybees\, paints a versatile picture of the group’s talents—ranging from kitschy humorous gems like “God Gave Me Two Babies” and “Omens\,” to emotional ballads like “Time and Luck” and the sparser indie flavor of “Again and Again.” Also included on the project\, Producer Grant Wicks arranged a countrified cover of Pixies “Here Comes Your Man\,” a shout out to local hero Black Francis. Christa Joy is expected to release a solo EP of songs written during the early months of the pandemic in early 2025. \nJoy is known for her strong sense of melody\, resonant storytelling\, and charming sincerity. She has played at many notable New England venues\, including the Parlor Room\, the Iron Horse\, and Club Passim. She has opened for some of her heroines\, including Lucy Wainwright Roche\, Meg Hutchinson\, The Sweetback Sisters\, Loudon Wainwright III\, and Antje Duvekot. Perhaps more importantly\, she is a Mom of three and a Forest Kindergarten Teacher in Western Massachusetts. You can follow her more closely on Substack and IG as Momsongwriter. \nOriginally from rural Massachusetts\, Christa grew up in a teacher preacher truck-driving kind of family. Joy spent the earliest years of her songwriting telling stories of her rural upbringing\, the illness and death of her mother\, and the brokenhearted years that followed this loss. Impermanence\, separation\, and the fragility of human life were themes that figured prominently in her early collections of songs\, Ready or Not (2012) and Daughter of Your Lost Art (2014). Then she became a Mom in 2015. That new little being demanded her presence\, and Joy turned her attention back toward this most precious world. She saw it all again for the first time and experienced it all through the soft constant awareness of her first child. In becoming a parent\, Joy rediscovered her own inner magic. She began to lighten up\, to laugh again\, and took notes for the whole ride. These are the moments that brought together her third collection of songs\, Get On\, Heart! (2019). This album was highlighted by No Depression’s “Crowdfunding Campaigns of the Week\,” and later released to a sold out Parlor Room in Northampton\, MA. Most notably played on Signature Sounds Jim Olsen’s “The Back Porch” radio show\, Jim Neill’s Jukebox\, Texas Highway Radio Show\, Blue Moon Kentucky\, Keepin’ It True Country\, Nine Volt Heart\, Vizaural Music\, Country Routes News\, and others.

SUMMARY:Rhythmscape: BSKE Dance Community presents Latin Dance Lessons with Prashad Abeysinghe
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. has announced a new summer dance series titled “Rhythmscape” on Dunham Mall\, select Sunday afternoons from 6 to 8 pm\, June 1 – August 31. Dunham Mall can be located by entering 100 North Street on your GPS. \nEach session will highlight a different rhythm and instructor from our local community\, reflecting the many identities that make Pittsfield home. Rhythmscape is free and open to all and encourages everyone to experience the joy of movement and the beauty of cultural exchange. No experience is necessary to participate. \nPrashad Abeysinghe is a Latin Dance instructor and event organizer by night; Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center Aquatics Director by day. Prashad and his fellow “BSKE Dance Community” instructors have been teaching weekly dance lessons and host dance socials in the Berkshires. BSKE stands for Bachata\, Salsa\, Kizomba\, Etc.! \nPrashad will be teaching a beginner and intermediate level Bachata and Salsa lesson\, and there will be social dancing after each lesson for you to practice your moves with a live DJ playing your favorite tunes!

His biggest passion\, besides being a dad to 2 boys\, is passing down knowledge to his students and promoting the positive influence that Hip Hop culture can bring to communities. DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and First Fridays Artswalk will host a Free Kids’ Paint & Sip on Friday\, August 2\, 5 to 7:45 pm\, as part of the First Fridays at Five Family Fun Zone on Dunham Mall (100 North Street). \nThis free Paint & Sip is best suited for ages 5 to 12\, although younger and older children are welcome. All materials\, instruction\, and juice will be provided. Children are welcome to drop in anytime over the course of the event\, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Hailing from São Paulo\, Brazil\, Luana excels in various dance forms including Samba\, Capoeira\, Break dancing\, Latin dance\, Jazz\, and Classic Ballet. Her rich cultural heritage is evident in her teaching and choreography\, ensuring that every performance is an authentic blend of tradition and innovation. \n5 pm: Salsa Class\n60 minutes \nDancers will focus on basic footwork\, body lagging\, spinning techniques\, and partner work. Additionally\, this class will explore salsa choreography\, timing & musicality\, and performance skills. Be ready to learn fun routines that you can take on the dance floor! \n6 pm: Samba for Beginners \n60 minutes \nThis class will teach you Brazilian Samba from the ground up. You will learn the technique for the basic Samba step including the foundation footwork and hip movement. You will also learn arm placement\, basic body movement\, and simple transitions. This dynamic practice cultivates strength\, flexibility\, rhythm\, and coordination. Come and embrace the spirit of Capoeira with us! \nTarcísio (Taz) is a Brazilian artist living in the Berkshires. His interdisciplinary approach to the arts gives him the ability to navigate through different art forms. He is a member of the Brazilian percussion group Berkshire Bateria and the founder of Quarteto de Samba. He performs often with both groups. He has published two books: a poetry book called “Point of Departure” and a children’s book titled “Quinho\, a Kid Out The World”. Tarcisio has worked in Upstate New York at Art Omi\, teaching theater and percussion. Presently he works for a not-for-profit organization\, also in Upstate NY\, providing individuals with autism with artistic and practical avenues to live an expansive life and to self-express. Out of all art forms that he practices\, he has practiced Capoeira the longest. Capoeira was part of his upbringing in Brazil and he started it at the age of 10. He is excited to share it with the Berkshires. \n  \n  \nSunday\, August 25\, 5 to 7 pm: Andres Ramirez from the Funk Box Dance Studio teaches hip-hop in Dunham Mall \nAndres Ramirez is a professional Breakdancer\, instructor\, and owner of The Funk Box Dance Studio in Pittsfield. He travels and competes frequently as well as hosts his own Hip Hop festival in his hometown. Andres trains and coaches young athletes and dancers who compete at both national and world-level events. His biggest passion\, besides being a dad to 2 boys\, is passing down knowledge to his students and promoting the positive influence that Hip Hop culture can bring to communities.
