SUMMARY:First Fridays: “Art in the Park” with Peter Vacchina
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and First Fridays Artswalk will feature Peter Vacchina as the May “Art in the Park” artist. \n  \nPeter will be popped up in Palace Park (near 122 North Street) from 5 to 8 pm\, inviting the community to add pieces to a “made-on-the-spot” mosaic and discussing his process with all who are interested. \n  \nPeter is a sculptor working primarily in marble\, mosaic\, and the occasional ice sculpture. His art reflects his personal life experiences\, particularly his time living and traveling abroad. Before becoming a full-time artist in Pittsfield\, Peter lived and taught science in Belgium\, Brazil\, Mexico\, England\, Italy\, and California. “I appreciate the challenge of working in marble and its potential to last for centuries. In my marble sculptures\, I seek to invoke memory in the way a scent or sound might\, and in doing so inspire heartfelt stories in the viewer.” \n  \n“Art in the Park” is supported in part by the Feigenbaum Foundation. \n  \n“Art in the Park” is supported in part by a grant from the Mass Cultural Council\, and a grant from the Pittsfield Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency. \n  \nJim Horsford will also be popped up in Palace Park hosting a free live pottery demonstration from 5 to 8 pm where he will be inviting individuals to help him make pots on the potter’s wheel. Jim spent 30 years as an art teacher at Herberg Middle School from 1978 to 2008. Currently\, he teaches pottery on the wheel at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts where he has been since 2000. His creations will be available for purchase. \n  \nIn the case of inclement weather\, “Art in the Park” with Peter Vacchina will be inside the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts at 28 Renee Avenue. \n  \nFor a full event listing\, visit https://lovepittsfield.com/first-fridays.

SUMMARY:“Art in the Park” with Ma’leek Adams-Powell (First Fridays at Five)
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and First Fridays Artswalk are pleased to announce the August “Art in the Park” artist at First Fridays at Five is Ma’leek Adams-Powell. \nMa’leek will be popped up in Palace Park (near 122 North Street)\, inviting the community to watch him create live and discussing his process with all who are interested. \nMa’leek Adams-Powell is a multidisciplinary artist from Pittsfield\, Massachusetts\, working between the Berkshires and NYC. A reminder that I was here.” \nIn the case of inclement weather\, “Art in the Park” with Ma’leek Adams-Powell will be inside the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts at 28 Renee Avenue. \n“Art in the Park” is supported by the Feigenbaum Foundation.

SUMMARY:“Art in the Park” with Shelsy Rodriguez
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Pittsfield\, Inc. and First Fridays Artswalk are pleased to announce our first “Art in the Park” artist of the 2025 First Fridays at Five Season! \nShelsy Rodriguez (Stephx) will be popped up in Palace Park (near 122 North Street)\, inviting the community to join her in creating an original painting. Thank you to the Feigenbaum Foundation for making this event possible! \nShelsy Rodriguez (Stephx) is 22 years old and is from Bogota\, Colombia. She came to the United States almost four years ago in search of her own well-being and development as a person. When she was in high school\, she always took refuge in art\, because it was a time when painting made her feel free and calm\, in contrast to the reality of her life. Art has made her see nuances\, textures and colors that transport her to a place where she feels comfortable\, being truly herself. Over the course of her existence\, she has met women who inspire her to form the mindset she has today about how she views life. She is now in the Berkshires\, where she is trying to improve her artistic skills. She is an environmental science student at BCC and has a creative baking business with her mother. She is part of several projects with the community in Pittsfield through different activities from public art to some painting workshops with the art collective KATUNEMO. Shelsy’s first mural can be seen on the Intermodal Center in Pittsfield!
