Steven Valenti and his store, Steven Valenti’s Clothing, have been downtown Pittsfield institutions for 37 years. Steve hasn’t slowed down in that time, working 6 days a week in his beloved store at 157 North Street, until the Coronavirus forced him to temporarily close his storefront. Steve misses his customers terribly, but he has found new ways to keep busy since the shutdown: checking messages, mastering new technologies, and restoring the car that he bought when he graduated college in 1973 (and finally taking it to the streets this past weekend!).

Steve was also recently honored at the Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. (DPI) Annual Meeting held on May 1, 2020 via Zoom. After serving multiple stints on the DPI Board and many of its committees, and after receiving the Bob Quattrochi Downtown Person of the Year Award in 2016 for his extraordinary service to our community, Steve was elected honorary Life Director at the May 1st meeting. This honor is bestowed by the Board to any board member who has served the organization in an exemplary manner over an extended period, and Steve’s passion for downtown and its redevelopment over the past 4 decades made him overqualified for this tremendous honor. Steve joins Gary Scarafoni, Peter Lafayette, Elie Hammerling, and David Carver as Honorary Life Directors on the DPI Board.

Starting Tuesday, May 26, Steven Valenti’s Clothing will be open for curbside service, Monday through Saturday, 9:30 am to 4 pm. There is new merchandise in store for men and women, and there are a lot of items on sale with items up to 50% off, and ladies’ racks marked at $25 and $29.50. Stay tuned to their Facebook page for updates on new inventory. Click here to view a virtual tour of the store. In case of emergencies, they are still taking appointments.
