Opening Reception: Making Marks by Caroline Kelley
Berkshire Art Center (BAC) will host Making Marks by Caroline Kelley at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. located at 437 North Street.
There will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday, October 2, from 5 to 7 pm at 437 North Street.
Making Marks offers an opportunity to experience Kelley’s ongoing investigation of the mark as both gesture and language. Through drawing and painting, she explores the ways seemingly spontaneous lines, shapes, and layers can accumulate into something more intentional — an expressive visual vocabulary shaped by instinct, observation, and the rhythms of the world around her.
Caroline Kelley is an abstract artist working primarily in acrylic paint, collage, charcoal, and colored pencil. Her process is intuitive and exploratory, guided by the evolving interplay of color, shape, line, and texture. Deeply inspired by the natural beauty of the Berkshires and the vibrant artistic community that surrounds her, Kelley creates expressive, dynamic works that invite viewers into a world of movement, energy, and discovery.
Born and raised in the Berkshires, Kelley studied art at Bard College and has continued to deepen her practice through a range of immersive learning experiences, including studies at the Woodstock School of Art in Woodstock, New York, and the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill in Truro, Massachusetts. She has also been a member of Drawing Galaxy, a collective of abstract artists whose work has been exhibited throughout the Hudson Valley.
Kelley currently lives and works in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where she is a proud member of the Clock Tower Artists. Her studio, located in the vibrant Clock Tower Business Park at Studio 306, 75 South Church Street, opens to the public during First Fridays at Five and at select times throughout the year.
Her work has been exhibited throughout the Berkshires, the Hudson Valley, Southern Vermont, and Hawaii. Each place has offered its own landscape, atmosphere, and creative influence, contributing new layers to an ongoing artistic exploration rooted in color, gesture, and the possibilities of abstraction.
The exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 2 pm, October 2 through October 29, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. offices at 431 North Street, or by appointment.
