A week-long celebration of local Black artists!
SCHEDULE:
Wednesday, August 4, 6 PM: Kick Off — Opening the Festival will be the Brownskin Band performing their own high energy version of their favorite soul, funk and R&B songs.
Thursday, August 5, 2 PM: Interactive SupaDupa Storytelling Power Hour with Ty Allan Jackson — An event for the entire family
6 PM: Poetry Slam — An evening of poetry featuring local poets
Friday, August 6, 6 PM: West Side Takes the Stage: Take 2 — with a local Talent Show for Adults*
Saturday, August 7, 6 PM: West Side Takes the Stage: Take 2 — with a local Talent Show for Students ages 16–21*
Sunday, August 8, 11 AM: Joyful Noise — Gospel Concert featuring local choirs and gospel singers. Hosted by Price Memorial AME Zion Church
6 PM: Ain’t I A Woman — Written by Shirley Edgerton and Felicia Robertson and directed by Shirley Edgerton, tells the stories of unsung African American heroines. Members of the Women of Color Giving Circle, Rites of Passage and Empowerment program, Youth Alive and other community members will perform. Wanda Houston will be the guest artist, telling the story and singing the songs of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.
*Cash prizes will be given to the winners of the talent show, including scholarships for the winning students.
Admission is free, reservations strongly recommended.
