Oral History Event at the Berkshire Athenaeum
December 7 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
The Berkshire Athenaeum in partnership with the Berkshire County Historical Society (BCHS) will present a free Oral History Event on Saturday, December 7 from 10 am to 2 pm.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the publication of Herman Melville’s Billy Budd, the Berkshire Athenaeum and BCHS will collect and record stories of grandparents and grandchildren. Billy Budd was discovered and published by Herman Melville’s granddaughter, Eleanor, who shared a special relationship with her grandfather. Together with partners from the Housatonic Heritage Oral History Center at Berkshire Community College, the Athenaeum and BCHS will create a story scavenger hunt for children and their families, which will include tasty treats and art projects. All participants will receive a copy of their recorded stories.
Pre-registration is not required. This program is funded in part by Mass Humanities, which receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
