The OLLI Distinguished Speakers Series presents Professor Sara Newland on “US-China Relations Under Biden and Trump”
November 10, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The US-China relationship is at its lowest point in decades. To what degree are these tensions the product of Trump-era policy changes toward China, and how (if at all) have these policies changed under President Biden’s leadership? This talk will describe the political changes in China and the US that have produced the current tensions in the bilateral relationship, and assess the prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
Sara Newland is an Assistant Professor of government at Smith College, where her teaching and research focus on the domestic and international politics of mainland China and Taiwan. She is a Fellow of the Public Intellectuals Program of the National Committee on US-China Relations and a member of the US-Taiwan Next Generation Working Group. Her research has been published in Governance, China Quarterly, and the Journal of Political Science Education.
